Bit of a silly question.......but......

Our dining room portable Tv has packed in, it was a mid-late 90's CRT type little 14" screen jobby.

We have been looking around for a new TV, and we quite fancy a flat screen, and getting a 30 quid digibox for it. However, they seem quite expensive for what they are, at over 180 quid for a 15" TFT TV.

My brother reckons that if we are getting a DigiBox, we can just buy a TFT computer monitor, and use that!!. We can get a 17" TFT for under 100quid......so it makes a lot of sense. If the didgibox has a proper remote control, and the PC monitor has speakers....jobs a certified good one.

But is he right? Can you do this? What connectors will you need? etc

Thanks

Sirius.

Cheers bud.

I think Ive just found a decent TV lol. 17" Hyundai LCD TV 700:1 ratio, looks pretty decent, 199 quid.

More than we were gonna spend, but we looked it these Mikomi ones in Curry's and it was about 170 quid or so for a 15", and its a brand we have never heard of before, the ratio was 450:1 (for whatever difference that actually makes lol), but it was nicam stereo, and this Hyundai is only like regular stereo, no teletext etc, but I think bollox to it cos teletext etc comes on the digibox channels anyway.

My dad looked at the reputation for Currys, and quite frankly he said he wasnt going to consider buying from there once he had read it!!!!.

Thinking of getting this:

http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=1612&category_id=46&manufacturer_id=0

LCD Monitor TV combo.... Hyundai is a good make, imagequest range has a good rep too....

.....Im assuming you can just plug it in, in the dining room with no PC, and watch TV through it, and/or a digi box......

Ive seen it cheaper somewhere, but it on my bookmarks at home..

what do you reckon? It comes free with 2 years full return to base, free pickup and redilivery etc, which is a lot more cheaper than Comet/Curry's that only give you 12 months, and charge 170 for a 15".....

Cheers

Interface - 15 pin D-sub, S-Video, RCA(Composite, Audio R/L), TV Antenna

Is that good or bad? lol.

I assume it plugs into the mains, the d-sub is the blue cable that usually goes to the PC, the S-Video is for attching Camcorders and stuff, RCA composite likewise, and the TV antenna is where I would stick the digi box in.......

Ps, I was worried about sound, but, you can get some PC speakers for less than a tenner. to beef it up if necessary.

You really should be looking for a model with RGB scart input if using a separate Digibox, this will give you best picture and sound quality.

DO NOT contemplate running it via RF (Aerial connection) as this will be the biggest load of pants ever, with crap picture and no stereo sound.

Bare in mind also that the composite input will be as pants and carries no audio and the S-Video connection also carries no sound.

I will have a look about later to see if there are any decent buys about, if you like?...........
