i'm ere at 5:20 am trying to work out how to use sliced images properly

gathering ideas to use in my website. Definately not using frames tho, trying to advance my knowledge and make a half desent site worth shitting on.

having probs joining sliced images to another not sure if u just have one huge sliced image "template" that u cut up or do like the top image then join it on with the side image im so confused.

But i'll get there in the end. Starting to make a cheesy navigation bar and then adding the graphics later like using it as a foundation to work around.

I been looking at some of your work tig, yer a GENIUS. Some mad stuff in yer profile, did u do any courses after your gcse's i just finished a b tec diploma starting a hnd in software engineering on monday.

I would start doing other stuff like getting a normal sleeping pattern for a start but im addicted to comp..lol
I will be in a decent paid job one day  i mean i put the effort in lmmfao wha more can i do.

Slicing images is a piece of piss mate! Use fireworks, it doesn't matter if you design the site in something else like photoshop (just flatten it and export as a bmp) then use the define slice tool to draw out all the regions - they'll automatically snap align themselves. Then choose export from the file menu - choose 'export html and images' select 'put images in subfolder' (for neatness) give it a name and save it.

You'll get a neat html file with the images in a subfolder and fireworks will do all the code for you, then either make it into your page or copy it into the page your working on!

Internet explorer didn't exist when i was at uni and netscape was on v.1!!! I've taught myself over the past 4-5 years but have only really got into it in the past 2 years - it's an awesome job to do cos every day is different and its usually a prety cool working environment as well!

is it well paid i think im gunna sack education off after this hnd and get some work experience in IT, i love web design and i like programming, more on the designing side of programming like the GUI.

I'm 19 and am learning a shit load in all areas of it and i spend shit loads of hours a day on me comp, once i gets me clio i wont b on it as much but for now i'm learning more than i ever have at colege, college is shit we know more than the teachers.

I was on the advanced course and the web assignment was to create a site with at least 5 linked pages i think they wee a bit shocked when i put a map done in flash which u could zoom into my house..lmmfao

it's good to see hteir faces tho :| What type of wage would u expect to be on at 21 and straight out of college wid a fair bit of experience? I'd settle for 14 grand a year but i lived in cumbria for too long so if i move else where i would expect more. What u think.

Joel veitch rocks, used to send emails n get tips on flash lol when i first started out :D

To be honest mate I'd hang on in education for a bit 'cos the arse has fallen out of the market at the moment and there are hardly any jobs knocking about.

I do still see the occasional entry level position knocking around at about 12-13K and once you get a couple of years experience you'll be looking at around the 20K mark (this is up north - don't know the score down south) if you specialise into something like flash you can get 25-30K and the same goes for if you know your back end stuff like PHP, SQL, ASP and Coldfusion. I STRONGLY reccommend you try to get some sort of qualification in these fields as there are still tons of jobs going in those areas and the money is much better.

Anyway, hope this helps ya - feel free to PM me if you have any problems with owt and I'll do my best to help ya, and good luck! :D

Reet - I'm off to bed now cos I'm sick of seeing it get light in the mornings!! :| Take care...

Tig did u actually design all of that????

Thats like unbelievable! u r way ahead of ur game m8 fuck i could learn shit loads from u let me leech ur brains!

That reminds me tiggs, there was a story in the Manchester Evening News the other night, about some company that's got a 'virtual secretary'. Fekking right rip-off of your BA Demo.

You should pursue that line of business mate, it's gonna be big...

Aye there are a few companies doing the cyberassistant thing - kiwi logic, novaminds and a couple of others as well. The full assisstant's work with an AI back end and I was working with some shit-hot programmers to build the GUI and the assistant for them. We made three full working assistants in the end but when the company went bankrupt I only had about an hour to grab off as much stuff as I could off the servers to stick on my CV, I took the BA demo as it didn't need a back end AI to run and unfortunately now most of my best work has been lost! :'o(

We were the first company to do it though and I was in interviews on Tommorows World, BBC News 24 and Euronews about it. I've still got most of the technology to build one between me and one of my mates but preparing the AI is a major pain the arse as you have to pre-empt what the questions are people might ask it and believe me, that is a huge job!

lol great idea, why don't we put our beloved administrator out of a job, and have the...

OSA CYBER-BUTTY!

I can see it now... ;)

(j/k butty!)

LOL! I actually started working on a club-chick interactive character who can tell you about night's out, give's advice on drugs 'n stuff and generally chats to you - but the job is huge and would need constant work to update the AI on new club nights and stuff. What I need to do is start going out every week again and getting off my face 'cos I always do loads when I get back off a night out.
