Problem is that "trance" is a vague term and gets used far too much. It's not like Italian piano or hardcore where you know what the sound is like.

What exactly is trance? I always thought it was the stuff that kicked in about 92 - like Age of Love, Stella, Jaydee and some of the R&S early stuff which I really like, and not the shite which dominates the charts.

I can listen to some trance but only for a certain length of time....suppose it depends on the mood im in.

I listen to happy hardcore aswell and erm a little drum & bass <<<rarely tho more like happy hardcore type drum n bass.

Doesn't come close to the zone tunes at all.

Where's mi zimmer! :redneck:

Thats where Im at!. Even after the earlier stuff on guerilla and Jackpot, Progressive house was the best thing to happen back in 1995/96, jackpot stuff, stress, were ace and I also loved BT stuff, Grace - Orange and ManWithNoName - SugarRush is a true masterpiece! The whole scene was a re awakening after my eventual disillusionment with house and (cheesy) Italian stuff like on MozMorris.

In fact, although I love my old skool, good epic prog house from its heyday can hold its own against it in my book.......

These days prog is too beat orientated rather than the musical intertwinery of the past, sort of more "tech house" but I like some of the relatively recent prog stuff on FIRE records and Rennaisance and Vapour which stand out from the boring drums and abstract noises :).

I suppose Im going soft in my old age, it used to be hardcore and everything too, but I just had to buy BT "Loving You more" Okenfold and Osbourne mix when it came out because its just a beautiful masterpiece of a record and defines a whole new era of my life. Old Skool and EpicHouse are my alltime two faves.

See ya

Sirius.

Trance is excellent in some scenarios. I'm not talking Ian Van Dahl or owt, more something like Art Of Trance. I'd even go as far say that at somewhere like Creamfields I'd rather see Ferry Corsten than Sasha.

As for progressive stuff - alsolutely love it. A good majority of my collection is made up mid-late 90's progressive tunes, in fact early 90's come to think of it. It was easily the best stuff around at the time. A tune to look out for if you've not got it is Next Life by Elevate released on Platoon in 98. It's the Kayashi Stellar Soundtrack mix on the flip which is the one - it's a fucking tune and a half.

It's wierd how the term trance has changed it's meaning over the years. If you think about KLF's Pure Trance series starting in 88 - they'd be definitely called Progressive today. It's only relatively recently that trance has come to mean that predominantly dutch type sound.

As for Trance, I remember when it was 'Trance and Ambient' and was dolphin noises and such like.

Yeh Trance has split off into different catagories now, which is what usually happens with different styles of dance that are the trend! Trance was once describe as Ambience with beats, which was once not from far wrong, but now there's so many different genres! I mean, who thought of putting a nice singalong in a trance tune and calling it 'Vocal Trance', or inventing a slightly different sound and putting it slighty more uptempo and calling it 'Goa trance'. Trance isnt supposed to be HARD, but hey, feck it, we'll do a hard sound and call it 'Hard Trance!!' Wot the feck!!
Im with you Johnny, Trance was the early stuff!!

I remember trance before it was "europop cover shit",
I remeber trance when it was soaring strings ,sublime basslines and dressed up Germans in converted bordellos

I remember Trance when it was DJ Dag , AMethyst, Choci's Chewns and CLub Uk
