The pic was Dakota actually. Not especially big (if memory serves) but wicked shockwave effects. Got loads of piccys of the 50's bikini tests if yer interested, some of em make crackin wallpaper.
You're gonna regret talking to Jonno about this shit- he makes me watch Trinity and Beyond like every week. He will be practically wanking off now he has found another nuke buddy lol.

Have you seen "Trinity and Beyond"? Great film narrated by William Shatner. Another recomendation would be a book called "100 Suns", it's brilliant. Amelie got it me for Christmas the year before last.

As for Dakota, I've just had a look; it was a 1.1 megaton device, certainly no slacker but certainly not the biggest of the thermonuclear devices either.

You can visit the Trinity site you know. Twice a year it's open to the public for a day and you can just drive up and take a look (although, obviously, it's in the middle of nowhere).

I'd love to go. I'd also like to bring back some of the Trinitite at the site (the sand that was fused into green glass) but it's supposedly still radioactive.

Yea I'd like to do a bit of that... not specifically the Trinity site, but just check some of the locs out 1st hand.
I'm a bit behind in my knowledge of all this stuff, but used to like reading up about the bikini atoll residents lawsuits against the U.S. government...

Also found a place which were selling off the old Atlas missile silos... how cool would it be to live in one of them... I doubt the neighbours would ever hear yer stereo.

I have to say...I too am totally mesmerised by A-bombs...BUT totally scared at the same time...I don't think we should have them...why do we have them? If one is dropped, human life on this planet will end. We're not mentally qualified to have such power, as a race and a collective, we are stupid. Why have an atom bomb? If Korea drops one on somebody, they'll drop one on them back and forth back and forth, till the planets destroyed. Every1 is just too paranoid, that without one, they're nothing, and some other country will take over them. But it's a delicate thing...just takes some people in charge to snap, and we're all done for!!!! Surely we don't need to fight like dogs? We have a mouth so we can talk...dogs don't...:(

whywhywhywhywhywhywhy?????? Beautifull yes, the most awful wrong thing on the planet...more so.

Tidal waves / Tsunamis

Isn't it wierd, that this beauty/ugly thing totally depends on who is looking. If I were an alien, I'd think Tsunamis were just beautiful...as they have no ill effects on me...technically, they are just beautifull...but then, oh god, I could go on...but I wont lololol...

Round and round and round...lol

Totally agree Loz... trouble is, how do you un-invent summat once you've invented it? The only thing "we" can do is try to stop any of the mentalist countries getting their mitts on them. The ones that already have, we've got to persuade them to junk em & not build any more.

Like you I'm fascinated by them (purely from a scientific point of view) but abhor what they do. Trouble is, to quote Brian Potter "you can't g'back!"

K... here's a PROPER controversial one :)

Cloning

Beautiful? Definitely. The ability to exactly duplicate a living things, in every tiny detail? That's nowt short of miraculous.

Ugly? Oh yes. I think cloning is just about as "wrong" as it's possible to get.
