To increase Virtual memory right click "My Computer" on the desktop, choose Properties then goto the Advanced tab & then click the Performance Settings tab, now click Advanced, Virtual Memory, Change & it should be set as "System Managed Size" if it isnt put it too System Managed or if you want to increase it use Custom Size & increase it, it really should be set to about 150% of what your total ram is but really the System Managed Size should be more than enough.
If you get stuck post back how much Ram your PC has (can be found on the General tab above) & what the Virtual Memory is set at.

Yeah thats the right screen, personally I think what its set too is way too low.
On that screen tick custom size & put initial size (MB) too 286MB & Maximum Size to 766MB, that will stop you running out.
Just out of interest how much RAM do you have ?
(R-click My Computer & choose Properties again & the General tab will come up with System info & who the PC is registered too & at the bottom your CPU, it's speed & the ammount of RAM)

No problem you shouldnt have that problem anymore, your 192mb of ram is a bit low for a pc nowadays so maybe get a bit more in the future as suggested.

That should be plenty as it is Markz, what are you doing when you tend to get the error? you shouldnt really run out with that big a page file & if you do then it might point to some other software problem.

Thanks chaps........ill go get some extra RAm too

Deffo... get some RAM. You HAVE to get some RAM... I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how much or rather how little you have. With XP you need at least 512Mb for it too run smoothly. I recommend buying 1Gb, and you will see massive improvements

I highly recommend looking at Black Vipers OS Guide for XP. Its a list of services that you can disable under XP to make it run a hell of lot better. His site is now sadly gone but there is an archive of it at:

http://www.dead-eye.net/WinXP%20Services.htm

Also recommend the following sites for service guides and tweaks to improving your XP system:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/
http://www.annoyances.org/
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Should help getting your system lean and mean.

deb the e drive on your machne i set up to be used as your paging file
1.5gb as teh paging file
which is overkill for 192mb of ram

have you changed your settings or reinstalled windows??
thats why i named it "do not use this drive" coz its for teh page file

cant remeber if u had 2 hard drives or not

but having teh page file seperated from the system files improves performance
even more so if its on a seperate drive

can only think uve turned off teh page file on that drive or you have reinstalled winblows

hope this helps

The way I set up my pagefile is to make the start and end the same size.
This stops continuous diskreading/writing.
So, if doolz has allocated your D: drive and 1.5GB for the pagefile, then set the start as 1.5GB (1500MB) and the end as 1.5GB (1500MB).

yes it was set like that as a static page file
never let windows handle page file sizes ;)
