Glue is the only Irvine Welsh book I havent read....

Gets all anal for a minute (no, not like that. tut tut)

Have you read any of his plays/playscripts? He's done two, one of which has Trainspotting, and 'Headstate' about 100 pages in all

"Originally conceived as a 'pre-club night' rather than a long-running play, this theatre piece, developed in concert with the Boilerhouse Theatre Company, is both a snapshot of and a hard-edged investigation into uncomfortable contemporaty truths. Mickey sells love; Tina has given it away, John denies it: and Martin Sykes, the butcher, will always use it for a scam. Headstate is a shocking and humorous look at modern Britain; where we are now and how we got here"
(phew)

It also inspired Slam's 'Headstates' :)

And his other one "You'll have had your hole" about 70 pages

"A chemical-age horror, a deeply unsettling tale for the 90's. Abusive and addictive, Irvine Welsh's first original stage play takes no prisoners and makes no compromises. Within the sound-proof walls of a recording studio a score is being settled. Two inner city low-lifes take the law into their own hands to satisfy their craving for fun, fear and a freakish sense of justice."

My fave of his was Ecstasy, loved that

Edit:

I saw the play of Filth, done by 1 fella at the contact theatre in town, which was amazing, as he acted all the parts for it on his own and managed to do it in 2 hours! Heh (I bet he had a little chemical assistance) ;)

I know that we have had a fave book thread before, but that was ages ago. What is everyone reading at the mo?

I have 3 on the go:

Irvine Welsh- 'Glue'. Good so far even if the constant deciphering of the scottish language is a bit hard.

Sylvia Plath- 'The Bell Jar'. Only a few pages in, using it mainly as (ahem :$ ) bathroom reading.

Helen Walsh- 'Brass'. Not as good as i had hoped, only half way in though so it might pick up.

Anyone reading anything that they can recommend for when these are done?

:)

What i really like about this book is how well the characters are formed, i really do feel as though i know them pretty well. And i love the way the story is unfolded from the four main carachters (sp?, lol nearlly a bottle of cheap vino down) perspective, so you get a more global picture of the dynamics of the friendship group rather than just one take of it. I was suprised to see him bring in Begbie et al from trainspotting, it really is good stuff. Vey honest, raw yet emotional at the same time. He makes you feel as though your part of the book- and that is great :)

Its also fantastic that he gave you the info on the parents, really gives you an insight to the upbringing, makes you see the culture and how this impacts upon the men that they become

glue is great amelie. the characters etc. I am reading 'mccarthys bar' a book about a guy travelling around ireland it is very funny but i left it at a mates house on thursday. doh!!

I am currently reading:

Hoolifan - Martin King & Martin Knight (one for the Stone Island crew)

lol, The Football Factory is another one which is worth a read...Opening chapter is called 'Coventry Away' and the opening sentence goes something like this....

'Coventry are fuck all. I Fucking hate Coventry, the towns' shit, the team's shit, the fans are fuck all. Hitler had the right idea when he tried to flaten the place' :D Goes off a bit on a tangent about his childhood etc but its worth a read...I think they are making it into a film.

Currnetly reading 'Bringing Down the House' - a true story about 6 students who took the Las Vegas casinos for $millions. Pucka read, well recommended.

West Stand, Tier 2
I've just finished 'KILLING PABLO' about the rise and fall of the one and only Pablo Escobar, not quite what I thought it was gonna be about. But very interesting all the same. :redneck:
One of the best books i've read tho, and i defo recommend especially to the peeps on this site, its called 'Class of '88' I dunno who it's by. :$ And I also know you can't get it anymore  . It's a true story all about the start of the rave culture in the south, I think it's written by the guy that ran the SUNRISE illegal raves. What a read!
