Im after a list of all the best codec apps out there,

Ive tried Dr DIVX and that doesnt support the codec for the avi file i want to play, does anyone else have any codec apps they currently use?

Ive done a google search and found a few but the last one I just installed wiped out a shit load of stuff from my registry and totally fucked up my PC which took me hours to sort out so im really looking for tried / tested before installing them

Cheers people :)

Just goto sourceforge & get ffdshow, media player classic, AC3 Filter, Direct show ogg vorbis, real alternative, quicktime alternative, & if you watch anime also get Matroska Pack Lite & that small amount of things will play EVERY file you can possibly find.
Or are you asking whats the best to encode with?

Yeah those I posted above will play them, if not get avicodec or g-spot as these two progs will tell you the details of the files (codecs used/quality rates etc) & if you have any problem finding the files I posted ask & I'll post direct links to them.

yep get g-spot & itll tell u what u need

beware about downloading these codec packs though cos they do more harm than good....theres one on doom9.org which does the job for all ripping & burning needs....and will have all the bits & bobs u need to watch stuff as well

major pain in the arse init !!!

Bit mad how Dr Divx wouldnt play it when the full download wasnt complete.

It came in 3 folders each folder has about 10 files and each file is an episode, when the first and second folders were fully downloaded i tried divx and it wouldnt play, but when the third was D/L as well Divx would play them

I use a codec pack called 'Nimo codec pack'. It contains everything Divx3,4,5 Xvid AC3 etc
Also download a small app called G-spot. Run the app and open your .Avi and it will tell you which codec the film is compressed with and wether or not the codec is installed on your machine.
You can get everything from www.vcdhelp.com (tools section)
