If the MC knows the tunes and when and when not to speak then there's no problem and things can work well ..

Trouble is these days too many MC's like the sound of their own voices and shout all over each and every record, vocal and breakdown ..

At the end of the day people dance to music not the sound of an MC's voice , if people cant hear the music because of the MC then whats the point .

As for the bouncy house argument , it works if it's done right as it does with old skool too .

Im in to mcin . . but only from the handfull of mcs , as imo theres only a handfull that know how to do there job properly , and do it well . . . from my experience of bookings mcs . . . . 75% of all mcs . . just jabber all night long ( half the time you cant understand what there on about ) and many seem to think that they are the main attraction . . . . . when at the end of the day ppl come to a club to listen to the tunes ( and not have some guy rantin over em all night spoilin em )(for me its the dj that is the engine of the night , and the mcs job to be the accelerater, but it has to be done right ) ive found that when you hand pick certain djs and a mc to go togther that works far better than havin the same guy all night long . . ( sometimes on the actual nights mcs sound ok when yr in there . . . but its only when you get the recordings home to find out they didnt stop jabbin all the way thro the set ruining it :(

for me the two guys that know how to do there job and both do it well ( that ive both booked quite a few times now ) are

JFMC

& EFEEZE ( when partnered with ANDY P & DJ RIKKEE )

I enjoy mc's but some of them need to learn when to chill, they do run off on the mic and its realy annoyin when u tryin to get into a tune

I have always wondered can a dj ask not to have a mc along side him on the nite, coz u can tell sumtimes they get pissed off!

Yeah the ones that just rant on that themselves all thru the tunes and mixing piss me off

I imagine them with their hair brush in the evenings waffling on to themselves all night in the mirror etc :naughty:

I concur with ben n rik, when they know your stlyle and respect what you are doing and know when to shut up great.

Or ones who just know when to shut up no matter who they work with. Like dont MC on big piano/riffs or thru a song lyric

Fkin rude that is

Or when your doing a top mix and both tunes need to be heard at the same time to get maximum effect and all you can hear is, addada 1 to the 3 to the 4 to dadaddada I am foookin great so's me grandma! Blah blah fookin blah!

Dont matter what the music, its the same concept, shut up at the right moments please! Its a national fkin crisis this is!!!! :cops:

The amount of times I have been mid rush to a belter of a tune then some twat on the end of the mic starts shouting and screaming down the mic - sorry but it brings me down all the time. Only a small majority of mc's were good most were utter shite and needed shooting, many a good night and tune was spoilt by some twat on the end of a mic. In the end I started opting to going to parties / clubs where there was no mc and I would rush all night long with no interuptions :D

As with bouncy house and mc's - definalty a No No - the tunes should be uplifting enough - if not then try a different combination of chemicals

As a bouncey house style dj/promoter, we tend not to book mcs on our events, theres nowt worse than some guy stood in a corner shouting down the mic, trying to be louder than the dj...as Ben says in a previous post, the dj is the main attraction the mc is just there to help things along, not to upstage the dj, or should i say try to....
The only mcs that i like and used to really love where people like "breeze" at bowlers, he is the kind of mc who had a top personallity to go with the job, a good showman, if i can put it like that....
And of course from the early days at Bowlers mc BIBBY, he was a different kind of mc, but it worked and everyone loved him.
Those are my two anyway.... :)

I'm not keen on MC's at all due to whats already been mentioned above. They shout in all the wrong places, rhyme until they've lost their breath and then go at it again when you're doing the mix of your life!

However, I do have much respect for MC's who know exactly when to speak and when not to. I think an MC should only speak when the tune is playing with no vocals, no piano riffs and certainly when its not in its main breakdown. When its just beats, its fine and sounds much better :D

MC's that I feel do the job well are:

MC Storm (Listen to this guy with DJ SY, fekkin brilliant!)
Domino (Yeah, yeah, yeah Ricka Ricka Rick Rick Rick Jones!! lol)

O, and another thing, was it just me or was MC Connie from Bowlers & Kinetic extremely annoying and very repetitive?

i agree with ben that the jfmc is a decent example, another not so well known mc who can rock is a guy called broxi from middleton - class.

i remember being in maximes about 95-96 and the mc on the night was on the dancefloor with the crowd rockin with everyone else while he was mc'in (think moggy was on the decks) he proper got the crowd goin - thats how it should be for me.... anybody remember that or know who he is...??

we'll agree to dissagree on this one then woody as i have seen 2 thousand people rocking to Ajay at the academy and they was loving it.
I can't remember ajay at timeless either saying that though there is not much i can remember from any timeless. In fact the only thing i can remember from timeless is marc mackender playing the finest and thats only because i ended up buying it of him
