Hi!.

Does your Wi-fi setup have a built in firewall?, you may need to configure some additional settings.

Have you upgraded to XP Service Pack 2?. Just wondered if your system was blocking net access via the firewall. Click Start > Control Panel > if it's SP2 you will have a 'security center' icon.

Are you able to send/receive e-mail?...

Full o cold at the moment, but other than that, I'm fine.

U ok?...

Can't say I've heard of buffalo, but if you can e-mail from your PC (with wireless setup) then its a net problem and not a connection problem. That's what I was getting at. Sorry for any confusion caused.

I'll see what I can figure out for ya...

Hi debs i have done a bit of this too hun.

I did dannys wireless network at his mums house but if i am honest i fluked it lol.

I have done it at work since and it took me ages but i managed to get it working.

I aint too sure wat ya problem is but if ya dont get it sorted i will ring ya and talk ya through a few things.

One thing thats come to mind, Does it actually say conected or does it say a wireless connection is available.

If its the later you need to force the connection by rightclicking on the little computer icon in ya task bar and selecting the connection and clicking the box that says connect to an unsecure network.

The principle of wireless is that you should really secure your connection cause in some circumstances peeps near you wireless connection could be able to sahre your internet bandwith like shooms is now doing with that cafe underneath him lol.

Hope i didnt lose ya but sometimes its easoer to explain in person.

Let me know how ya get on chick,

Andy

It could be a few things hun.

One of which could be the internet settings on the laptop. It needs to have the ip address of the router which should be connected to the internet.

It could be that although you have a connection your laptop is not looking for the right ip address for the gateway to the net.

Its quite hard to explain really and i could be well of the mark.

Sorry!, didn't realise that you were setting up wireless on an additional machine. Probably was right at the start of the thread... (phil reads full message.....)

Sorry to add to the confusion!.

Shouldn't be too hard to fathom out, set up a few of them at work when we tested them out.

With having a router, I'm assuming you've got all the right gubbins filled in (on all connected PC's)

Router uses local IP addresses such as

192.168.8.1 (Router's IP)

Example for a 2 pc setup

PC 192.168.8.19
Laptop 192.168.8.20

The way I have mine is (not wireless btw!);

IP pool from 192.168.8.17 to 192.168.8.24

So you can plug in a PC and use an IP in that range.

Unless you're using DHCP where it automatically gets an IP ?
