We set up a wireless internet at home last week. Up to two days ago it was working fine. I installed service pack 2 on the pc and since then it has been shite. It connects no problems and it lasts anything from one minute to five minutes and then stops downloading pages as if its not connected anymore but still says its connected. All the lights are on but nobody is home...:naughty:

I thought it was SP2's fault so did system restore but with no joy. The strange thing is exactly the same happened with the laptop which is using the same connection - this was also working fine until the other day... .

If you reboot either machine then it works fine again but stops in the same way so you have to keep rebooting to keep the connection going. n Sometimes the laptop can keep going other times the pc is fine but the laptop isn't... . Its really infuriating.

Anyone know what I need to be doing to get it back to how it was? Tearing my hair out here.

Cheers for all help - I'll prolly have to reboot now to view any replies...

 Mart,
I had this problem when I set up wireless on my laptop and Minxy's PC.
I put it down to service pack 2 and un-installed it on both machines.
Still wasn't right so I uninstalled the wireless cards and all the software and did it all again from scratch... worked a treat
Can't explain why  but if something doesn't work I always un-install everything and put it back on again.
Good luck mate and see ya soon

My friend had problems like this, it was all to do with the service pk 2. My mate removed that and then everything was ok.

When I was working for Mcr Uni last year, we setup and tested a few wireless cards, and found probs with SP2, BUT, it was only a simple firewall issue, as by default the firewall that is bundled with SP2 is on.

Turned that off, and all was fine.

Sorry didn't see this thread earlier, but SP2 I would say is worth putting on.

Always good to have your PC patched and upto date with the MS updates.

There's only corporate software that has problems with SP2, and other platforms such as Novell.

I did try turning the firewall off but it made no difference. Since I reinstalled the wifi its been running perfectly so I'm a bit reluctant to redo SP2. Is there real problems ahead if I don't install it?

Sorry LNADJ I don't know the answer to your question. I use a disgo to move files from the pc to the laptop and found thats just about the simplest way for me :condom: :cops:
