I bet the answer to this is more ram, but heres the lowdown

I have about 10k of mp3s in a folder, and everytime I open it to browse it really slows down to a point if i scroll up and down fast you get the old (not responding) message. Now im running a p4 3ghz (800fsb) with 512mb of ddr400 on a 865pe chipset, so I would have thought that would be plenty. Would adding more ram sort this out or can i get away with just making a few tweaks to windows xp?

PS apart from opening that folder the PC whizzes along nicely:thumbsup:

i would be suprised if that folder was the root of it, operating systems are built for handling lots of files, try checking what size the partion is with the files on.

Moonie the partition is 120gb with around 30gb free - there are several folders in the partition (music genres) with the problem one being "unsorted" which hosts over 8,000 files ive tried changing the way the icons are displayed ie tile, list etc, but as soon as you open the folder its seems to take forever for the generic icon on each file to change to the winamp file icon. If you use the scrollbar at the side and overtake where windows is changing the icons to winamp icons then it just seems to lock up:crazy:
