just reading an article about the worst cover version of all-time decided to poll my mates and get a big list together. I know there is loads i hate but i can't think right now. Here's what I have so far.

all saints:- under the bridge
scissor sisters:- comfortably numb
louise:- stuck in the middle

please help me remember the ones that realy annoy me. namely boy and girl bands covering really good 60s, 70s and 80s pop

Was in a shop in town buying my lunch earlier and heard Dizzee Rascal's latest effort on the radio - a hip hop version of Captain Sensible's Happy Talk... every bit as bad as it sounds...

I actually don't mind the scissor sisters cover at all, infact i think its good. I like it because it is, bar the lyrics totally different to the orig. What is the point of covering something and it sounding exactly the same musically (note for note i mean), but with shite vocals (as in quality)etc. An example of this is No Doubt's 'Its My life', all they have done is added a few extra noises, changed the singer etc, and lost its specialness. Imho, a cover should be something that paints it in a different light, alters the mood etc but still gets the general message across of its writer.

I heard a cover on the radio the other day, a really wank ravey davey mix of Lennon's 'Imagine'. I know i need not say anymore, it really was horrific.

One of the worst covers I ever heard was Sixpence None the Richer, doing a cover of The La's - There She Goes.

Ruined it.

Have to say I prefer the All Saints version of Under The Bridge, as I heard that first, and loved the way they harmonised on it, very classy - then I heard the original and thought it was too empty :S

Chav-ville Droylsden, innit!
Urg, can't think of who sings it, but you'll know who I mean...

'It's My Life' originally by Talk Talk, and 80's classic MURDERED!

Now, I don't mind a clever re-interpretation of an old song, like that 'Mad World' thingy, but when they just do a complete cover it really is sad.

I'm looking forward to Busted's new version of 'Firestarter'! ;)

sorry i feel i have to elaborate here. The original is about the singers own personal battle with heroin addiction. Its a very personal song and thats why i feel it should have been left alone. The same with scissor sisters. I was so proud of timo when he sacked someone for playing it a year or so ago

When I was a whipper snapper I worked at Kwik Save as a stock lad, they used to play this tape on loop all day of cover versions, cos they werent allowed to play orig's for some reason.

So low and behold amongst all the other shite a cover version of 'Star Trekkin' comes on!!!

WTF:cops:

I mean its possibly one of the worst records ever made anyway LOL

I cant believe nobodys mentioned 'Wonderwall' by that blonde haired freak whos name has totally left me!! God that was a shite cover!!

That's the best cover I've ever heard I reckon

I HATE Oasis and Wonderwall was 'OK' the only song they did that had something about it IMO, and much better when Noel sang it on MTV unplugged after Liams hissy fit, the stupid fucker.

Anyway, Ryan Adams cover of it is far far superior I thought! :D
