X-fader cleaning

I've got a couple of intermittent crackles on one side of the x-fader on my old but sturdy Stanton RM3s

I'll get a replacement when next in UK, but just wondering what peeps recommend for x-fader cleaning in the short term.

Is WD40 any good for cleaning on the fly, as a running-repair until I fit the new one?

you can buy some proper fader cleaner spray for the short term or to keep ya fader nice and clean regular . . .

( Wd40 does the job also , but ive found that in the past it can eat away at the plastic that is in some faders after time , as it did with my old numark mixer i had . . )

Cheers Ben - seeing as its gonna be replaced, I'll WD40 it for now.

Have to ring round some Scouse dj shops to see if they stock replacements (I don't think the new SMX3 [or whatever it is] that replaced the rm3s takes the same x-fader).

You can get a can of 'switch cleaner' for electrical appliances from most places like Maplin, or the equivalent over there...

I've had great results with it over the years, make sure you get a straw with it (cutter, shut it!) as you can direct the spray into the channel of the crossfader. Better still if you can strip the mixer and give it a blast of air as well to get any grit out that might be lodged in the fader strip.

Just as a warning, dont use wd40 unless you have already got a replacement on the way. That goes for turntable sliders too.

few more replies there I missed - cheers lads - always better to get personal recommendations rather than relying on net info... that way you have someone to slap when they giev you sh~t advice!

I'm on the phone to Scouse DJ places as I type - I have heard that Stanton do replacement/maintenance packs of kit.

Would really like a new faceplate as well.
