Woo-hoo, the supermarkets are getting all their festive shit out. Maaaaan do we love Chrismas in our house. Jonno is making us some homemade bacon with a pig hanging for ages outside (or summat), and i am going to do a great big fuck off ham thing with cloves stuck all over it. Mulled wine an obv addition.

Mince pies, nuts in shells, Quality Sreet, them savory nibble things, too many posh cheeses, loadsa family rows. Christmas rocks with a capital 'R'.

Have i left it too late to make a cake? If not anyone know any recipies?

I luuurve Christmas.

I would just like to say though, whilst its dead nice to have a sken at the Christmas stuff in the shops, its a big no no in my book to eat things out of season, like say hot cross buns now. We can't buy stuff in advance at our house because we just drink all the booze and eat all the food before Christmas actually arrives, we have to leave it to a few days before.

One thing that does annoy me about Christmas is cards, what do you do with them? I have toyed very briefly with getting them things that hang on the wall to hold cards, but if i am honest i think they look dead jizz. I usually just put them around the mantle piece thing- which with an open fire is a right friggin hazzard. If you put them on the window then just all fall over like its a Domino Rally game very time you open/close the curtains.

Another thing about cards it the games you have to play with them. If you get one of someone you have to leave it at least a day so when you send one back it does not look like you are just sending them one cus they sent you one. And why oh why can i never ever remember neighbours names, juts the cruel nick names i have given them.

What do you hate about it?

everything except the dinner & the telly...

having said that, the telly's been bare shite the last few Xmaseses, and you can have turkey dinner any time of year, so what's the point?

it's all the falseness n'all...
having to send cards to folks you can't fucking stand...
having to buy presents you know people don't want...
all the "because it's Xmas" forced-bonhomie & conviviality.

It's all just such bollocks... I mean there's no reason all these things can't be done right through the year, and because you want to do them. This whole en-masse forced-celebration just because of a date on the calendar just seems ridiculous to me.

But i'm a right miserable old barst, as everyone knows

Ahhh, well here is what i think.

1, I don't think its false, i actually like the spirit of Christmas (not in a relgious sense), its just a really nice time for families who don't see each other much to meet up and shit. Its not false to kids either, i think its magical being around those who belive in Father Christmas

2, I don't buy presents for those who i don't want to, and those i do i actually enjoy searching for things i know thy will like for one reason or another, wether it be a comedy gift or summat heartfelt.

3, The whole 'becasue its Xmas' is for me because some people can't afford to buy presents all year round, and its just great to be with your loved ones and exhange presents and have a good time, however small the gift- its the gesture thats special. Plus you have the time off from work at Christmas which many don't get at other times of the year, so often family memebers from further afield pay a visit etc.

I just love it all, i love us all being at home and chilling out and eating far too much.

:)

Agree with everything you've said...

All the things you've described though bear no relation to 'christmas' at all really, or to any particular day of the year... There's nothing actually stopping families exchanging prezzies or getting together at any time. Maybe people don't do it, but they could if they wanted to... December 25th is just an arbitrary excuse, which is not in itself a bad thing it's just not necessary... We shouldn't need an excuse to spend time with families etc... The fact that there's this date on the calendar which we all plan all this stuff around just means that for every person who wants to do it, there'll be someone else who doesn't... And a lot of people just make a token effort because they're too lazy to bother the rest of the year... This stands out a mile, and I personally would rather such people just didn't bother because I can't bear people being fake in that way.

I find it hard to believe that you don't ever buy presents for those you don't want to... I mean we've all got the "But if I buy for soanso then I've also gotta buy for soanso" type of sheet in our families & circle of friends & partners' friends etc...
Everyone has the "oh but if we go round there we'll have to take them summat have we got a box of Qually Street in the cupboard?" conversations...

Don't get me wrong... I'm not mean-spirited or owt, I'd give someone I've only known 5 minutes me last tenner & the shirt off me back... It's not the giving I resent, it's the whole thing about that one date... Why do we have to do all this for December 25th? It just has no relevance for me whatsoever. Why not June 4th? We just don't need to put a date on it... Especially now that the Christian meaning around the date is so irrelevant to most people.

Plus there's the whole commercial argument... The fact that if there was no Xmas there's be no January sales... I'll never accept that some retailers aren't utterly cynical when it comes to stocks & pricing in the run up to Xmas... Of course they are... I'm not saying it's all a big scam, but these organisations know exactly what they're doing, it's all premeditated & calculated to generate maximum revenue.

I love chilling at home & eating too much too (who doesn't lol) but i don't wanna have to do it on a certain irrelevant date just because everyone else does... I might wanna do it in June, or April... I know I'm free to do that, but you must see my point... There's immense pressure on people at Xmas to conform to a certain set of rules about what you do & who with. I just don't agree with rules like those unless there's a point or purpose to them.

Lastly, I have to say 2 things...
Firstly, I do completely accept your point about Xmas and children. It is magical being around them at Xmas time, of course it is. I'm not some childcatcher-type cartoon baddie who wants to ruin all that, far from it... I just think kids are magical 365 days a year and parents/friends/families should appreciate them just as much on each of those days, not just on a certain day because "that's the way we always have done it".

Finally, the anal sex question (tis better to give than to recieve). This I also completely accept. I love giving presents. From the stupid & meaningless to the completely extravagant, given out of the blue for no reason whatsoever... To give presents & not recieve a single one in return would make me happiest of all (i hate the attention when ppl give you gifts, but that's a personal thing). Again my point isn't that we shouldn't give prezzies, it's just that we should give prezzies on any day of the year, and for any reason or better still for no reason at all...

Argggh don't be so bloody cold! It might just be a date, and yeah as i said it have nowt to do with religious resons, but hey- for whatever reason lots of people find Christmas a great time to just let others know how much they mean to them. Course you can do it all year round, but lets be honest here. How many families can wing it so they are all off for the best part of two weeks, have Christmas Bonuses and shit to exchange gifts in say April. Yeah it can be done, but why when you can do it at the time you are going to get off anyway!

I am, and i admit this a great one for any kind of celebration- Haloween, Christmas, Easter, Birthdays. Any excuse to have a bit of a party in out house. And before you sart with the 'excuse' thing, its just a turn of phrase. Yes of course i could put up a tree and start singing carols, buy everyone shit in March, but for me it just would not be the same.

As for the bit on kids, i am sure most parents appreaciate their kids all year round, its just for me Christmas is really a great day for them, regardless of anything else or any other stresses that they might have. Most children would class it as the best day, even wtih parents who treat them amazingly well the rest of the year.

I really love christmas, but can't we wait another 3 months to get into the spirit of it?:p

No wonder every f*cker takes their decorations down about a week before the event!

Bring back Christmas in December!! :D

i hate the fucker me...

Me too  Its the biggest pile of shit going.

Xmas 2004 I spent on my own in my house with just my 2 cats for company. I made myself what I wanted to eat, watched what I wanted to watch on TV, spoke to who I wanted to, the only pressie I bought was for Pauly and that only cost me £7 lol and then some friends came round in the evening to get well and truly slaughtered, it was top

Having said that, xmas day at paulys mums is top cos theyre great cooks and buy really nice food and have plenty of booze, but then again everytime we go there they do aswell :D

I probably will change my mind when I have kids tho
