from fug there. thanks mate. Was gonna have the happy scrappy bit from clerks. The "i'm afraid i cannot do that dave" bit from 2001. Deffo any improved speech like pesci in goodfellas and benicio del torro in usual suspects. However have to say the nam scene that takes the biscuit has got to be robert duvall with his "love the smell of napalm in the morning" and "charlie don't surf" lines.

Jonno are you taking the micky with independance day

Quadrophenia - the ending with Jimmy on the scooter on the cliffs & The Who 'I've had enough'

In a similar vein the ending of Harold & Maude when Harold drives the E type cum hearse over the cliffs with Cat Stevens 'Trouble' alongside it

Empire Strikes Back - Luke I am your father

Taxi Driver - You taawkin to me ?

See no evil, Hear no evil - Fuzzy Wuzzy was a woman ?

The scene in the back of the van in Robocop 'can you fly Bobby'

Anything from the Firm "I gotta av im you seen what he done to the motor"

I take it you've not seen it, it's a film that manages to walk that difficult tightrope of being both serious and funny. There's a large amount of top scenes in there but the President's speech is the standout one for me.

I've grabbed it off the t'inty:

[the President briefs the pilots before the final attack]
President Thomas Whitmore: Good morning.
[PA doesn't work. Turns it on]
President Thomas Whitmore: Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!
[Crowd cheers]

That's gotta float your boat, surely?

See how they manage to throw a bit of classic humour in at the start with the pa switched off - genius!!!

I'd go for that as well, cracking ending to a film. I was listening to the soundtrack late last night and had a real urge to watch the whole film.

yes on all counts... you're both right... the end sequence would be better actually... you get the look on his face and the same cracking tune as at the opening... I know what you eman about the soundtrack too... I've never listened to it on it's own, but have watched the film a few times just for the music. I never tire of it, it's a film I could watch over and over.
