Before I get too bogged down in trying to fix this does anyone know of an issue where Quicktime ITunes prevents you from launching music mp3 attachments

Ive just been on tuneid and every time I try and listen to an mp3 it pops up as a quicktime object then crashes windows even tho its not associated with mp3s:crazy:

Installed it last night cos the missus has now got one of them Nano things for her birthday

Same thing happend to me and Leon.. see thread on tuneid.

@ johns - That's the thing... all the settings were pointing to winamp but Quicktime had still taken over!

@ Neil - Think you can fuck off Quicktime and leave iTunes on through add and remove programs. Think that's what Leon did... not able to check myself though.

you need to create another profile on the pc for your little un and then run itunes logged into it

it will start from scratch just with the music you load for it on that profile

Apple is quality ;)
Bought my lil sister a Nano for christmas, she has to use my mums pc which has no internet connection.
She opened it christmas day but oh no Apple cant afford to put a cd with it let alone a charger (standard issue with every other MP3 player I have ever bought).
So no software so she cant use it :|
I take Itunes round on my mp3 player next day & install it on mums pc, after faffing about with it taking AGES looking for cd covers which dont exist on the PC for each tune (why not just ask if I want to scan for them?) & various other annoying little things I finally copy loads of MP3s on it that I got for her.
Go over again a couple of days later & she says theres lots of tunes on the various Hed Kandi compilations I got her she doesnt like, so as my mums PC has no speakers I suggest we make a playlist "by artist" so she can play the tunes on her Nano whilst deleting the ones she dont like from the Itunes libary, then after that's done update the Nano so she only has tunes she likes on it.
The Nano wont let me play all the tracks in order so I create the playlist & goto put it on the Nano, but oh great according to Itunes the Nano isnt connected (ok so it's charging via usb when I plug it in so it must be connected)
Hmmm ok, theres a diagnostic option so I choose that (after various restarts etc trying to get it picked up) & it gives me the info -

Itunes helper - Working!
Itunes something else - Working!
USB - Found & Working!
Ipod - Not found!

Oh theres a big HELP button next to the Ipod bit, so I press that which opens a webpage, great I havent got an internet connection so thats a whole lot of help, not.
40mb install files but no room for a help file, cheers Apple my sister has a nice looking piece of crap.
I uninstall it & oh joy same thing, perhaps it will decide to work again next time I go over but I'm not counting on it, why you cant just use some drag & drop removable drive option I dont know, oh & "cannot connect to I tunes store" can you please stop flashing up!!!!

Can anyone please suggest a good free alternative that will hopefully actually work when she plugs her Nano in?
I have one called Media Monkey but I would like to take a couple over for her to try.

I thought it might be this, I seem to remember a problem with quicktime and IDs when I first came on the net

Can you have ITunes without Quicktime?

all i did was go to "control panel" then "add or remove programs" and deleted Quicktime.
this didnt affect Itunes cos i got my mrs an I Pod for crimbo and i've downloaded tunes to it since i erased that pissant stupid-arsed Quicktime ;)

As easy as that? :)

TBH I havent touched owt yet because shes still farting around with it. If you can get shot of Quicktime without affecting ITunes I would say that would be ideal
