Hi,
Followed the site for a couple of years.
There seems to be a lot of like minded people and guys I
have learned from too.
I am a clubber who started out at the first raves in Glasgow when the Slam boys introduced acid house in 1988.
The best years for me were 1990- 1991 when ,as part of
a 'balearic network' of clubs - to quote ID magazine at
the time; the sub club in Glasgow connected with Flying
london, Most excellent Manchester ,& Venus in Nottingham.
I have added comment to the Darren Emerson mix at the
milk bar 1991. It is a set that is very similar to a Stuart McMillan set at the time, and I have most of the tunes.
The slam guys did Ibiza 1990, and Rimini (italia) 91,92
and I was there.
They were recognised to have been the best there at the time.
It seems quite funny when looking at these sites, but Stuart was always the better DJ. In the mixtape and tracklist sections of various sites Orde Meikle will be listed,
but THEY ALWAYS DJ'D TOGETHER.
The high point was always Stuart's part of the set.
There are still a lot of unknowns that I will refer to as
'CHUGGERS' that were played in between the main anthems. I still don't know a lot of these unkowns that
Robertson,Weatherall,Farley,Emerson,Thatcher,Harvey,and the Slam guys played.
I understand the qualities of the hacienda dj's and even
Sasha (I have sinned)!, but I don't think they had the quality of the aforementioned.
Maybe I can start a debate, and maybe I have alleniated guys on the site already.
Hated the move to one type of dance only in 1993.
The above mentioned dj's moved to Techno all night and
although there was a lot of good techno around
then; diversity was still the key.
Everyone went there one seperate ways after '92.
Slam, Robertson ,Weatherall et all were now techno dj's
Sasha was trance.
Park etc was still trying to do garage, but the quality had
dried up.
None of the individual facets of dance could provide the
same quality night when all were combined.
I see it as similar to a football site......
'Its all about opinions'.
