Does anyone remember the bedroom bedlam section that was in the now defunked Muzik Magazine (mid to late 90's). You used to have to send in a mix tape and the winner was picked out every month and sometimes picked up by clubs ect.

I submitted a couple of tapes and came 2nd once:cry: to a bloke called Marcus, who i think went on to play at renaissance:( ;)

Wondered if anyone on OSA ever won, and if so did anything happen DJ wise;)

Muzik mag IMHO was top quality and it was a shame to see it fall by the wayside:thumbsup:

yeah, still got some issues of this.use them for speaker stands along with old mixmags and the like. not as much commercialism in muzik as mixmag in its later years and used to enjoy the features too. never sent in a tape/ cd to the mags as i couldnt be arsed.lol

a lad I know called Paul Bimson / Paolo Mojo won it; we went school and college together, used to fuck around on the decks, get stoned, do tapes etc as you did. Paolo Mojo

Not spoke to him for yrs now but my mate met up with him when he dj'd at space in ibiza recently. By the looks of it he's doing not too bad to say the least; done tours of the US with sasha, (think he's bigger internationally than in the Uk actually), sure he's with sasha's dj agency or somat, he has his own label, does stuff with eric prydz etc. Done a good track called 1983 which samples PKA Let Me Hear You Say Yeah too. Good on him I say.

looks like he's done very well, although do you think it was him that wrote his Discogs description "paolo mojo is one of those Dj's":D

but he does mention Vertigo as his early influence. Good man, never forgets his roots like some eh lol  think i saw a recent track list of his where he'd done his own re-edit of baby june - hey whats your name. Wouldnt mind having a listen to that one too. :)

Can't recall a Frank/Andy although its 10 years now since I lived in Sheffield. The only Andy I remember us both being friends with was from Darlington (now lives in Aus). Could well have met him tho, Paul came out with us to the clubs once in a while (Rise, Music Factory etc) so prob could have done

We had a few email convos around the time Hazy was starting. Tis great stuff to see him doing so well   .

anyone remember the mixmag dj comp in 95, andy cleeton won the house mix and got a spot at the Hac,

I used to DJ with Andy Cleeton down in Swansea - mid 90s. No one has ever heard the mix that he 'won' with. Rumour was that he 'borrowed' it from one of the better DJs in South Wales at the time.

[Jan 2021 - ETA] Much time has flowed since I posted this, and I've finally caught with Andy and lots of other friendly faces from back in the day in Swansea after too many years. My comment about his mix being borrowed was nothing more than gossip and rumour, and there are plenty of people who did hear the mix, even if I didn't. He won and got the break he deserved and has been DJing since then in various places. I'm sorry for suggesting otherwise and I am happy to make this correction. Be good to each other peeps! [end edit]

I did some eBaying with a guy called Dave Twomey who won back on April 2002. I got him to send me a copy of his mixed as I was getting pi55ed off with sending stuff and never getting mention. His mix was brill - dark, tribal, progressive techie stuff, you just couldn't help moving to it. Put me right back in my box! No idea what he is up to now mind.

Marcus James is still working for renaissance - I have seen him looking moody at the back of Stealth in nottingham once or twice!

Cheers,
Simon

I remember Muzik magazine, was by far the best music mag for a good while. :king:

Then all of a sudden it went shit (must have been a new editor) and was goin the way mixmag was :| , which I thought was poor. Ie just fully a fancy fonts n little real content

Sy you should up your tape if you have it phones: ;)

Bedroom Bedlam, got the winning set that Zabiela did somewhere, if anybody wants?

Id love to hear the mix that Zabiela won with

I once entered a comp for M8 magazine once. That still goin? The prize was for a years residency at a club (think it was in London?).

The week before the mag came out to annouce the winner the promoter of the club rang me to say he thought my mix was the best and said a few other nice things :) but then proceeded to say that they were gonna give the prize to another DJ who lived more local

Used to enter Eternity magazine's competiton 'Breaking new Talent'

Was lucky enough to win, got a spread in the mag and a guest spot at Club Kinetic out of it.

They were days playing hardcore, mad to think i only play soulful house these days and not forgetting my monthly indulges into Oldskool........
