How weird does it feel? I feel traped, like a caged frikkin animal. Its not like i actually wanted to go out anywhere, but now i don't have the option i feel all wound up and stressed lol.

The man at the garage says 'its not good', and they are 'a man down'- so its looks like i might be stuck here for the week. I have a terrible feeling my car is dead forever too, which is adding to the worry levels- as the last thing i can be arsed with is getting a new car.

I have done zero Christmas shopping. Totally nothing. We are out of nearly everything, and i have to get my coat on in a min and me and Jem have to walk a mile (!!!!!) for some bread, milk and pot's!

They take away your legs don't they?:|

I started using the train when I was working in Manchester last year and I loved it. I even started reading again to fill the travelling time. Saved a fortune on petrol and parking and gave me an extra 15 mins in bed:D

As I don't drive myself I don't have that problem. I too love to read on the many trains and buses I have to get to work, uni and the rest of it. Drives me mad when they're late or don't turn up though  especially in this weather    but aprt from that it's not too bad. I do have to learn to drive for my job though, so I've made it my new years resolution

I really really really miss that... always used to carry a book on me & I devoured them... I've always been a voracious reader...

However nowadays I've traded up for driving at sub light speed

No but your will to live is deffo gone!

Seriously though, i were you i would imagine its not so bad. I live in the middle of frikkin nowhere with a 1 mile walk just to get bread. When its a week or so before Christmas, you have kids etc and nothing ready- trust me, its really a big nightmare. Had someone told me it as going to happen it would have been okay, but as it were we had nothing in to even eat as such.

The posh bit of Liverpool
the world seems like such a big place when you haven't got your car, the comfort of being in your vehicle is something else isnt it, that false sense of security and invincibility is lost when you are a pedestrian, i hate it :(

Loss of freedum is my summary, on a train your detination is determined by the tracks laid down by the man, i like to choose my own path :)

Thats quite good actually. Though of course with a Red Rose Rambler (circa 85) you could pretty much the the boss still lol. Public transport is sooooo expensive.

is the red rose rambler the equivalent to the Mersey rail Save-a-way ticket, that allowed you to travel anywhere on the city line? :D circa 85 also infact i think :D

Except you had to put up with people trying to nick said ticket from you....fkin tramps :p

Yeah you proper village folk probably do need a car, but a 1 mile walk isn't very much I don't think.

It's a 10-15 to the railway station from here, but I enjoyed the walk through the woods to get there and back  :)

yep, hideous time for it to happen just before xmas, am pretty stressed about it, especially as I loathe it in Brum and dont feel safe in my flat at the best of times, having no car has made me feel even more vulnerable :|
its my ticket outta this hellhole once works done on Fridays and its making me very edgy and jumpy having that option taken away  :(

I've been sans car for the past fortnight and have quite enjoyed it. The absolute deliciousness of reading a paper on the way into work is a feeling to behold and for me, I have to walk a total of approx. 900m from door to door. Admittedly I have to change trains twice, but his is no hardship and usually a ten minute wait maximum. In terms of cost, travelling by train is lightly cheaper and takes the same amount of time, albeit with a 90mph motorway drive for 17 miles in the car. Add to this the deathrace 2000 vibe of travelling through Liverpool at rush hour and I may just carry on commuting, even when my car is sorted.

Plus my carbon footprint has been reduced (if I was ever bothered by it in the first place)

The only thing that bothers me at the moment is the inability to smoke on public transport, but even this could be seen as a plus.

I have never seen myself as a commuter, but I have been more impressed than I ever thought I would be with public transport.

For reference, I drive a Jaguar X-Type, so it's not as if the train is more luxurious either...

Don't ask me about shopping in Sainsburys last Saturday though, that would paint a completely different picture.....
