Hello there Anyone got any advice on Lcd's at all? My old clonkers brown bread so i'm gonna splash out.. I wanted a full 1080p but does it really make much difference? Samsung 1's are the bollox stylewise but i'm drawn 2 the Bravia for some reason.. Any advice would be grand..

i went with the 37 samsung from dixons on line ,,it is money well spent,,was well chuffed with the quality and picture,,some sites slate the sound but i found it to be more than up to the job in my living room

get to currys m8 dunno if its still on but i saw an advert in the paper on saturday for a sony bravia kdl40v3000. £799 i looked at this set just befor crimbo and it was £1399, and i nearly bought it. did some more reading up on it and it decided it was a good 1 to go for. waited till crimbo was over and it came on tv currys again at £899 boxing day sale so i shot down and bought it, also pestered them for a deal they were offering 1/2 price stand or 1/2 price ps3, i managed to talk them into doing both 1/2 price and gotta admit im chuffed to punch with it, it looks great. my sister bought an lg one at same time but it looks cheapish (very plasticy looking) and at 40" the sony is big enough to be a nice big tv, but doesn't look to big for the room. hope this helps m8.

ps my m8 went to buy same set a few days later and it had gone up to £1199 so i recon i got a good deal, all in all with the ps3 and stand i saved over £700

cant see it now on currys site but found it hear even cheaper £747 i would do a bit of research 1st but im more than impressed with my set

Well i got 1.. Went 4 a Samsung 32" (good spec) in the end and i have 2 say i'm unimpressed! The picture is a bit blocky? No nice clean edges.. Hopefully its something 2 do with the scart leads or possibly the quality from the cable box...

Are you actually running a high-def source into the telly? If you are then you need to be using HDMI or Component leads, not scart

I got one of them recently mate, is that the one you've just got by any chance ???

If it is then I know exactly what your saying, if it's a poor signal going into it then the picture is awful.
Sky is very hit and miss, had the football on ITV last night and it was almost unwatchable it was that bad, so I turned over to Sky Sports coverage and the picture quality was fantastic.
Fortunatly my tv is used mostly for the Xbox or watching dvd's or video files. My 360 is a version 2 with the HDMI connection so anything I run through that is top notch.
Also I really had to change the factory settings to suit my own needs. There is a rough guide on how someone thinks it should be set up on AV Forums so if you do a search I'm sure you'll find it and that might give you some tips

If you still get no joy, take the telly back and get a Panasonic Viera. We got one a few months back, and it's very impressive, especially with an Xbox 360 plugged into it!

On the gadget show a few weeks ago they tested the most expensive HDMI leads they could find against the cheapest. Same tv's, same blu ray players and same dvd's and their was no difference at all whatsoever so dont be fooled into getting expensive ones.

If youare buying, buy the latest technology (ie 1080).....if you don't, you will only want one in three months time!!

LCD's are very good for up to say 37 to 40" screens, but above that, plasma tends to be better........especially for fast action/movement....they get less blurr.

Plasma telly's suffer from the "they don't last long" myth, but I think the average expected life is around 50,000 hours, so that's plenty.

I have a Hitachi 42" Plasma which has 1080, but it "cheats" a bit by splitting the pixels. It isn't true 1080, but it's still a damned fine picture.

The Sony Bravia "W" series is an excellent picture......really really good.

I've bought 2 LCD's over the past year or so - one 42" and one 32". The 32" I only picked up yesterday.

I'd personally go for an LCD over a Plasma - the standard of LCD's means the Plasma's don't seem to be able to compete against like for like picture quality these days.

Also I wouldn't necessessily put a huge amount of sway with it being 1080p - over 1080i or 720p. There was a recent compare on a C5 gadgets programme the other day, and on it a cheaper 1080i LCD had a better picture than the more expensive 1080p - both with a Blue Ray HDMI input. A Philips LCD came top in their little review thing.

The cheapest place to get brand new HD TV's from is probably ebuyer.com, but they don't have all brands (they don't have Philips for instance).

You can get all brands and cheaper on Ebay though, especially with the likes of ex-showroom etc, but they still come with 12 months warranty. The benefit is you can afford a better TV than you would normally buy by generally saving a couple of hundred quid over and above the cheapest price on the net.

If I was you, I'd take the other one back if you're not completely happy with it (you should have a 14 day money back guarentee), and then take a look around on ebay and ebuyer.

That one I picked up yesterday was a 32" Philips 100Hz LCD (100Hz are double the refresh rate of normal), with 12 months warranty for £389.

They need to be bedded in(i left mine on for nearly24 hrs).
The closer you sit the worse the pic actually gets.
The picture is bloody terrible straight out of the box,they need to be set up.
A sd tv signal will not look to clever on a hd tv,some tvs look better than others.
Not all tv channels transmit signals at the same quality(watching footy on setanta is crap).
Idmi cables,dont buy a expensive one i have a £60 lead and a £6 lead and there is no difference to be seen.

it could just be your settings benny, my 40" sony bravia seemed a bit pixelted at 1st and tbh i was a bit dissapointed then i plugged in the ps3 via hdmi (a £44.99 one ggrrr wish i had read this thread 1st ) and it blew me away also did watching a bluray movie. i then realised that as i flicked through the channels on sky some were spot on and some were a bit poor.
i would try your 360 into it via hdmi and if it looks great you know its not your tv, it must be either your settings, your leads or just the fact that the prog your watching is not broadcasting in great deffinition. im by no means no expert but it would seem to make sense that if your 360 looks the biz, its not a prob with your tv but how its set up. my sister bought an lg 42" lcd and the picture was horrible compared to mine, but after reading a forum we found out it had an option in the setting so that it upscalled the signal, and when we sussed out how to alter that it looked 10 times better i think the bravia upscales the pictures automatic, as i think the vierra does and prob many others, but until tv broadcasts are all high def or you buy an hd box or whetever some channels will still look a bit grainy in places. btw dunno why but football looked poor on my itv last night too :S i could of course be talking bollox and your tv is shite lol in which case take it back. but i would check your setting 1st it might be something as simple as that, try find a forum ie type into google best settings for samsung tv or something. hope this helps m8
