Doesn't sound very good shooms, splash out and get a decent soundcard (or if you want a PC, I've a spare I'm selling for £75, you'd just need keyboard, mouse, monitor, the base unit has all the other gubbins inc soundcard already -pm for more info..)

Couldn't help with that as I only use a laptop for final scratch so I don't use the sound at all in the laptop, the link shows a 7.1 system there, that'd be wasted surely as you'll only use 2 speakers I'm guessing ?

Remember cheap stuff aint always the best for audio - rubbish in, rubbish out and all that, look into it a bit more on a laptop muso forum or sommat before jumping in at the deep end. Must be folks on here who use laptops for music recording apps ?

Right this is fucking gay....

The same file (attached) played thru winamp sounds muffled but in windows media sounds crisp.. I've checked the winamp settings & it's a predefined EQ... can someone listen to the attached & confirm it sounds OK or not to them... ta

Sounds ok that, turn off any EQ settings in winamp and just go direct into an amp for best results.
