Been to so many in all my world travels, so I'll just name the one's I frequented most often.

92-94: Aahz in Orlando Florida nearly every weekend, best club ever for me.
Marz in Cocoa Beach Florida, The Village in Melbourne Florida, The
Collosium in Daytona Florida, The Edge and Barbarellas in Orlando.
95-97: Club UK in Wandsworth London. Absolutely loved it! The Complex in
London, Return to the Source at The Fridge in Brixton London.
98-03: Pompeii in Phoenix Arizona, The Nile in Mesa Arizona, Desert Trance
Society raves in various desert location in Arizona, The Radius in
Scottsdale Arizona
Now: The Lizard Lounge in Dallas Texas, Liquid in Dallas Texas.

You never made it up to Gainesville for Simon's Innermind? Simon's and Aahz at the Beacham are by far the best clubs I have ever been to as far as vibe and energy go.

dj Mike knowler hasnt aged a bit  ,i thought the Zanzibar was always a place for rock gigs, i recall a live PA by Sy Snootles and the Rebo band :band:

In 89 I was turning my back on electro and hip-hop and getting down to thrash metal :|
Same year on my 18th birthday I dragged a smelly mate in to the Hac. I couldn't believe how you could hear it from McDs on Oxford Road, and the pavements felt like they were shaking as you walked nearer. Needless to say my life changed.
Only went out a few times that year, discovered Konspiracy club. That has to be favourite club of all time, so insane inside. I should hate it. I thought it might be a good idea to drop a 100 mushies before going in one night in 1990. Deciding I had enough with my materialistic life:crazy: , ran away from my mates, decided I was too warm got outside through a fire escape, took all my clothes off bar my shorts, don't think I even had my wallet, definitely no trainers. Then ran back in through the main entrance ignoring whatever the bouncers were trying to say, stayed on the raised dancefloor for the rest of the night. As I came back to reality I realised my mates had left me (I don't blame them). Luckily I bumped in to some old school mates who I hadn't seen for a year or so. And managed to get a lift home :$

90 more indie/dance clubs as another group of mates got in to the Madchester scene. Venus, 5th Avenue, The Boardwalk, Monroes (Stockport)
Weekender in Pwllheli

91 dropped my first E at Sequins in Blackpool and never listened to Indie again
I went to Sequins more than anywhere. I prefered the harder edge it had over most places - before hardcore came along and ruined it for me. Club was ok, decor was naff. I have some photos (somewhere)
Oz in Blackpool was 2nd choice if we couldn't get in
Shelleys in Stoke, usually too much piano for me. Sasha was a highlight. Getting 5 stitches off a thug with sovereigns was the lowest
Some place in Ashton - Zoo? Sasha again, bit of a dive
42nd Street saw Jenny whatsherface off No Limits in there
Manhattans in Blackburn - nice club - loved the american car smashed in to the roof
Hippodrome in Middleton. Gotta love that walkway over the dance floor
Back to Basics in Leeds, lovely gaff
Soundgardens
Then there was Marple Liberal Club - really just a club for people who went to one school - but cracking nights and copius amounts of drugs
And then I went on a bad trip and my clubbing came to an abrupt end

Took till about 96/97 till I started going out properly again. Mainly for Drum and Bass at Sankeys and the Hac. But went to Ministry of Sound for NYE party with Todd Terry. Damn that place was loud and clear.
As Drum and Bass never really took off up here so I stopped going out again.

Just on the odd occasion I'll go to a club. Pick of the bunch for me has been the Ampersand lately, but too posey for me really.

I'm really tempted to come to one of these old school nights, I know I'll convice one or two to come with me. Just need to convince myself, it won't be like how other "old fogey" type get togethers are. I can't be the only one who looks down on 80s, Punk, Bay City Rollers reunions can I?
But I am so glad I lived through this era, I'm willing to be thought of as a bit naff, for clinging to my past. In fact there is only the Hippy summer of love I would possibly trade for

Sheffield
Great thread!

1988 - Limit Sheffield. Just started getting into it then. It was crossing over from the hip hop at the time in Sheffield, and rave/acid was starting kick off.

1989 - Ocassions in Sheffield, and went every friday for a couple of years.

1990 - CJ's in Sheffield - a mucky skanky underground after club, but had my first e in there. Amazing.

1990-1992 - Shelleys Stoke. Went virtually every Saturday in 1991. Joined the queues at 8, blagged to the front, and in the club by 9, off it! Best time of my life. Never to be forgotten.

1991 - Hippodrome in Middleton Manchester

1991-1993 - Palais Sheffield - Jam/Music Factory. My local club, and was superb. Just managed to get NYE 1991 on CD so am currently sat listening reminiscing to the best night of my clubbing life

1992-1993 - Gallery in Leeds. Loved this place. So different. Brilliant.

1993-1996 - Hard Times at all the venues - Mirfield, The church in Huddersfield (saw Kathy Sledge sing we are family there - we were!). And then onto Leeds.

1994-1996 - Back to Basics.

1996 - Ibiza - my final blow out.

Trying to get to an old skool night. I've never stopped listening to the stuff, just never been to a night.

Other venues I went to:

Octagon Sheffield 1990/1993
Nelson Mandela Sheffield - 1990/1993
Amnesia at Donnington - September 1992
Rise @ Leadmill Sheffield
Time @ Leadmill Sheffield
Pacha Rotherham

I'm sure there's more, but the memory aint as good as it used to be!

LOL - blast from the past!! Churchills was a regular haunt on a Saturdays if we'd been out raving on the Friday nights. (Usually Milkwalkees or The Eclipse) Get beered up in Muswells, then move on to The Unicorn, finish off in The Dog and Gun (got a late license in 91 or 92 was it?? 12 o'clock - wooooo :p ) and then off to the club. Funny as.

The Pink Flamingo - is that still there?? I remember a few nights going over with a coachload - once or twice we went to the dome in Brum or sometimes to Park End in Oxford.

Those kinds of nights were always great. Cheeeeesy music, loads of beer, dodging the odd scrap, a sweaty kebab on the way home....f**k me Banbury hasn't changed much has it???? LOL!

Hi Al,

The place hasn't changed at all ;)

Love the word 'Arena' - pmsl. We always used to hang around by (or on!) the bank of speakers to the right of the DJ box. Then we moved to the bar at the back and then finally to the payphone area in the 'foyer' by the bogs (especially when the music started going a bit harder)

Great find those - nice one

Doing sound m8 - hope ur well too bud :D

how funny..
was being a bit self indulgent and looking up old nights I'd run and stumbled upon this!

It's quite interesting looking back, how people on the other side of the decks must have experienced and now remember things...

Well I went along to the liberal club a couple of times in 1990 to nights that a couple of marple dj's called nick and johnny used to run, then in early 91, me and another mate took over and made it a weekly friday night affair.

We took the odd week off to go to Shelleys or Monroes in Stockport which was also pretty good at the time considering it was such a small venue.

But for the most part, that was us doing it through 91 and creeping into 92.

I remember us trying to do a mid week night too, which unfortunately was a total washout, but randomly Pig-C and another DJ had heard about us and came along to check it out.
Not the best timing as I think we had made the massive oversight of not advertising it until the night before and when noone showed we had to scrap it.

Crikey, I remember us doing another night up in New Mills that Pig-C came along to check out, and we'd got cocky with that and this particular night I was trashed beyond belief and I can honestly say it was the worst display of DJ'ing I've had the displeasure of providing a crowd with!

But that was kinda my point, looking at it from a crowds point of view... I know these are super small nights, and not even a blip on clublands historical landscape, but flicking through old friends networks on Facebook or such like.. there are quite a few sub groups that were just setting out clubbing when we were doing these nights and bizzarrely citing places like the liberal club as the reason they all hooked up and got into clubland.

Dunno, I guess there's no real point here. Just feeling nostalgic and looking back on that era a bit self indulgently whilst avoiding doing any work for the afternoon!
