Are My Decks Fooked ????

My decks haven't been on now for the best part of 2 months. I went to switch them on today to play through a couple of tunes I've had recently and neither would switch on.
I have four things in an extension block, hifi, mixer and 2 decks. The mixer is working and so is the hifi but my decks wont go on at all.
Any ideas

Surely can't be the decks. For both to be knackered at the same time is too much of a coincidence. Have you tried plugging your decks into where your hifi and mixer are on the extension block? That would check if its the block that's knackered. Or maybe change the fuses in the plugs for your decks? Power surge might have taken them out???

That's what I was thinking mate. I've not tried changing the plugs around but I intend to do that in the morning when I can be arsed to move everything out the way to get at the extension.
Am I right in saying that the plugs are all sealed and enclosed ? If that's the case how would I get into them to change the fuses ?
That power surge thing is worrying me though. I've fried to pc's in another room in the house through a power surge, although I would imagine if it had fried them then it would also have fried the mixer and the hifi

Yeah, you're prob right about that.

Sealed plugs are designed to keep you away from the wiring, but there should usually be a little pop out clip holding the fuse.

Right I've tried the mixer and the hifi in the sockets that the decks were in and they still work. I've tried the decks in the sockets that mixer and hifi were in and still nowt.
I've popped the fuses out and replaced them with new 5amp fuses and still sod all arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The decks I've got at the minute mate I've had for 9 years, had no problems with them at all in that space of time and when I popped the fuses out this morning they were 5amp so thats what I bought to replace them

Charlie...if ya usin Technics 1200/1210's take the platter off..inside u shud see a couple of fuses (think thats what they are) but made of glass with coloured bands around em..when 1 of my decks knackerd a while a back it was due to 1 of these...get yaself to Tysons..(if they still sell em) think they only cost a few pence..so nothing to lose if it turns out not to be them eh

Yeah, forgot about them internal fuses. Could be them, if not maybe the transformers have may of been zappped by a power surge?

I doubt decks would need 13Amp fuses as they use very little power.

But it's still 240v at the plug? Which travels up the cable to the transformer, which then transforms it down to the required power the deck needs.

I'm not a spark, but all plugs are 240V at the wall. The size of fuse required often depends upon the amount of power an appliance uses I think?

An Electric cooker running a 3amp fuse will burn it out and always needs a 13Amp fuse.

However, smaller appliances often use low amp fuses to protect them from surges that could damaged them. The fuse goes before the surge would cause damage.

In the case of the technics, I don't know what fuse it should have at the plug as you point out it has a transformer inside. It also has an intenal fuse also.

It will be the internal fuses mate, exactly the same thing happened with mine last year. Both decks went at the same time as a result of a power surge!

yep Sonic is right this happened to me years ago, went to turn them on and nothing, was the internal fuses, they'd blown after a power surge.....everything else was fine. Had to take them to get sorted.

Do us a pic of where the fuses are. I'll have a look & see if I can get the ratings of them. They will probably only cost buttons from somewhere like Maplin.

They dont cost much, a repair shop will try and fleece you for £20 - £30 a deck!!!! Just had a quick look on the net but theres nothing useful, i'll try and get a pic for you!!

Can I just say a big thanks to everyone for replying to this thread and appologise for not replying sooner.
I eventually got round to getting these fixed last night and it was the internal fuses
