funny you shoudl say that, but down here in london noone knows anything about the blackburn scene. hacienda sure, but until i joined here, never heard about blackburn. hope the film comes out.

there were a few die hard southerners who travelled up regularly for the blackburn parties, i have all the newspaper cuttings from most of the parties but if memory serves they didnt scan too well ill have a see and get them up'd

Here's a good link with interviews from Pickering / Sasha / Suddi

The Blackburn Rave Scene | Clash Music Exclusive General
Great link there Shooms

What a gimp Pickering is at times though:

we thought club music should be played in a club but for us to have 1200, 1400 people under a sweaty roof was far better than standing in the middle of some daft field. Most of ‘em got cancelled anyway

Very few were in a field - the clue's in the name Mike - it's a warehouse party! Most of em didn't get cancelled either.

He seems to be one of those people that didn't go and then just created a negative assumption of what they were like.

Aye was buzzin when I read Suddi's words :D Nice of Sasha to be gracious & modest on his n all :)

Went to Boomtown rave at the weekend in Blackers & was proper buzzing driving off the motorway around the backroads & into town listening to Tilly's running commentry :D ... can only imagine what it was like back in the day fully convoy'd up

Have to say was disappointed by Boomtown... we got in @ 10.30 & the 1st DJ played relentless piano cheese after piano cheese... not even good piano :|

The later tunes were a mixture of old uns (MC Wildski - Warriors / Rhythm Quest - Closer (Hibrid) / Outlander - Vamp / RSW - Phantom, 4 for money - A moment in time were memorable ones) plus new re-edits of old tunes :| & some thumping dirty acidy new tunes...

I was gagging for stuff like Liasons D Future FJP / He chilled out, Bizznizz - Party line / D Shake - Techno Trance / Hardcore Uproar - High on Hope etc etc etc :|

Also the DJs played off CDJs & MP3s :| :| :|

What is going on there then, doesn't sound good to me.

Do you know who the DJ's were?

Could've been a lot better Jonno... venue was 41 King Street above the cellar bar... tidy venue but full of nippers & the tunes could've been a lot better

DJs were

DJ Big Kenny
DJ Easy D
DJ Shack

Never heard of em lol

But they weren't the Blackburn parties though, which that article is about.

The Blackburn parties were alomst completely in warehouses, the proper one's anyhow - the early one's by the original crew that kickstarted thousands of people's lives into a total imersion into acid house culture (well mine anyhow). Those one's gave inspiration to the smaller one's later in fields.
