Not experienced a blackout since I was a kid but this last year its happened twice. Last night around 9pm me and the wife were settling down to watch a film in bed and BANG all the power went.

We got up by the light of our mobile phones and were met at the top of the stairs by our two lads, also stumbling around in the light of their phones. After rummaging around in the cupboard under the stairs I managed to find a few candles and looking through the windows we could see the surrounding streets were also in darkness apart from the odd flickers of torch light etc.

With the sound of house alarms going off and next doors dog barking all four of us ended up huddled in the living room round a couple of flickering candles telling stories about things we were scared of as kids and the lads chipped in with some cracking stories of things that got them freaked out at the old house we used to live in.

We were all falling about laughing proper out loud for ages then before you know it the power came back on. The power cut had lasted around an hour and within a split second of it coming back on , the lads had ran back to their rooms to there x box's etc and me and Bernie went back to bed to watch the dvd, but I couldnt help thinking that was the first time the four of us had sat together in the living room as a family having a right good laugh in ages, but the second the electricity kicked back in we all went back to our own rooms like it had never happened. Just goes to show the massive effect electrical things weve come to depend on have on our lives as a whole.

Im quite looking forward to another power cut now after last night, in fact Ive even contemplated making sure we have one, a few munchies in, lots more candles and rigging a power cut at the fuse box ;)

Ah nice one Chris:thumbsup: :)

That's one of the things I love about camping. You're all sat around a campfire telling stories or chatting bollocks and it's bliss:cool:

We should do it more often;)

top banana

like you say, seemed like there was loads of power cuts when we were kids, and it was quite a mini-adventure :D

bet not many people even keep proper candles / candlesticks for that purpose nowadays, maybe for decoration more than emergency lighting if anything :D
we'd have to light loads of tealights :D
but saying that, i am a torch geek, got a few in car/house :$ :p

Here in the jolly old land of USA in Louisiana we get power cuts almost once a week with the storms during the high of summer, its a right pain in the arse when its 40oC outside and it goes off no A/C :9 Then again they are stupid enough to not run the electric underground but on fucking poles in a hurricane/tornado area.
