PC just crashed, so rebooted and it fucked up on the blue xp screen where you click on your username. Then it went blank and I got the lilttle logon box.

Then I could see my desktop, but with no icons and after about 2 mins the xp bootup audio thing played.

I can open the task manager and can see that explorer.exe isn't running and I can't get it to run either.

I can get firefox to run though, which is how I'm on here lol.

Any bright ideas, or am I better off doing a clean install???

Pretty sure I'm not infected with anything - I've just run a vull virus scan and found nothing.

I think it's just windows that's gone corrupted for some reason. Time for a new hard drive and a fresh install, not risking trying to do it on this drive, got way to much stuff that I can't afford to lose. :S

Another world.
If Windows has fucked up then the HDD will be still fine, to me it sounds like Windows has fucked up on ya, it happened to me so I bought an external HDD to put anything of importance on and installed OSx86 over Windows. best move ever.

Tip for the future:

Get a USB external hard drive for all your audio / files, that way if windows ever goes tits up you won't ever lose any data.

Other good thing with USB drives is they are FAT32 formatted and don't ever need to be defragged as they don't contain an operating system - which is a huge bonus if you edit/record wav files a lot

Get rid of AVG as well, it's fucking rubbish and finds nowt thesedays.

NOD32 instead and use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for scanning any mal/spywares

I have a 500gig external drive but it's just filled with crap and nothing important, lol

Never used used AVG. Don't think I'd really feel safe protecting my pc with something that is free :S

I've stuck with NOD32 and will have a look into anti-malware, cheers. Is it just a scanner jobby like adaware or does it run in real time?
