thats pretty good that...

my t'other half got one last month, 42" LCD Toshiba from argos and it was on offer......should of been £679 and he got it for £469

its got all the gadjets and doofers with it and all them daft input/output thingys and ya can also put memory cards into it and view pictures etc

Well seeing as it's now possible to get HD over freeview (in some areas) it might be an idea to make sure you get a telly with built in HD freeview, otherwise you're just going to have to splash out on a new set-top-box at some point over the next 12 months or so. :thumbsup:

lcd is better than plasma.........but i must i tell ya they are making new t.v's . they are made with l.e.d....... thousands of little lights in the screen.......they are the future tv.....................

aye LED is the way ,the pic quality is amazing:thumbsup: and they use upto 40% less lecky so could pay for itself in a few yrs time (thats what i keep tellin lisa:p ) im gonna take the plunge when the price comes down a bit...

A top end lcd should look great and a bottom end lcd will more than likely look crap. It's probably the same with plasma, but i've gotta say the one I bought last year looks absolutely stunning in both sd and hd for the main channels and I got lucky and found it for 500 quid. It's a Panasonic and only hd ready (as opposed to full hd) but I did my research first and found the reviews stating that sd signals looked amazing on it as well as hd, and given that the vast majority of broadcast programmes are still broadcast is sd, then I reckon that's the most important factor when choosing a tv for normal viewers:thumbsup:

Most full hd sets i've seen look absolutely crap when watching standard definition programmes and some of those people don't even have the means to watch HD tv so they're watching shit tv for no special reason, so don't be seduced by the higher pixel count unless you read a good review about it - and that includes reading the bit about sd if you're going to be a normal viewer as well as a gamer:thumbsup:

Regarding LED sets, they fall into 2 main categories. 1 of which is LED backlit - meaning that rather than having flourescent backlighting in the set, it used led which although uses lower power, it isn't a true led pixel tv, so it's worth checking the smallprint if you're wanting a led pixel tv ;)

Do your research and look for award winning sets (mine had won loads of awards) or at least check out anything that looks like a bargain by searching google for information about that given model to see if customers are happy with theirs, or complaining about them;)

That's my advice anyway if anybody wants it:thumbsup:

Saying "LCD is better than plasma" is a massive oversimplification and is simply not true.
Best advice is to do your own research, go and look at loads of tellies, and choose the one you like best.

Not true at all. Probably the opposite, in fact.

LCD is preferable for gamers & PC users because older plasma TVs used to suffer from "burn in"... a fixed image displayed on the screen for a long time could potentially burn itself into the display & never go away. It doesn't happen on newer sets though.

For watching films & TV shows, plasma TVs offer better picture quality. Better range of contrast, better display of movement, and "deeper blacks" (not blicks). It's true LCD has caught up loads recently though, especially in terms of displaying moving objects.

Plasma screens are more susceptible to glare too, and are less bright, so not so good in brightly lit rooms.

The real answer is both have advantages and disadvantages. It depends what you want, and how & where it'll be used.

Movin' on up.
My advise is if you don't plan on getting HD anytime soon don't bother with LCD/Plasma.

You will get a better picture on my Philips Cathode Ray Tube set, which is brilliant.

Only when you have a HD signal coming in do these new TV's look any good in my opinion, especially the big screen sizes. Fine if you like that out of focus blurred look. . .. .which I'm not keen on.
