Around Easter...ish IIRC. Worst possible time by the looks of it lol. Apparently wasn't dark / cold enough for the Northern Lights
(didn't stop me peering into the sky in hope though...) and was similar night/daytime scenario as home at that time of year , so no midnight sun either. Pah! Need to go back again, twice. The Blue Lagoon, however, was worth it. Amazing. One of the best places ever , you must go
Despite the poor choice of season, It was brilliant, something magical about it that I cant put my finger on, was captivated by the place, and its odd lunar landscapes and coolly crazy people. Watch out for the 'Black Death' drink though, blows your head clean off
Expensive though, but worth it. Loved it.
My mate was in Iceland around 4 weeks ago and managed to see them.
They are not quite as awesome as the cost of things out there.

Aye I looked at prices last week and it was over £600 just for the flight

If you'd had a bit more patience when night fell then you might have got lucky as the aurora borealis is happening constantly and you just need darkness according to the expert who took me out. He reckoned the best time for spotting was spring, as you're not freezing your nadgers off while you're waiting
I saw them myself a few times Barrie a couple of weeks back. I took loads of photos... a very cool spectacle

yeah the prices are shocking , think it was about six quid a pint when I went and that was years back, lots of stuff imported I guess.
Cant remember who we flew with or how much it was for flights /accomodation now though.

I'm catching the sleeper train up there soon mate and i'll be there from 7:42am tomorrow until Monday 15:30 when I leave Aviemore.
Loads of great parties on this weekend mate with old skool and DnB DJ's, a live band, good discounts all over town and on the hill and some sponsors giving away freebies if you're nearby and can swing over:beer:

yeah maybe :| It was very much a last minute thing though, Like a ....'Bollocks to it, shall we go...this weekend?!' kinda shizzle, and was only there for a weekend so didn't have much time to plan / arrange / fit in loads of trekking about. I'm not generally a fan of returning to the same places more than once - after all, its a big ol' world out there to see - but that is one place I would definitely go to again like a shot, no question.
They certainly did Kev. They were seen on friday night by residents there and on saturday night by a mate when she was walking back to our rented houses.
I heard earlier that another mate who lives there saw them last night too, so if it's still sunny there with clear skies as it was all weekend, then as long as that huge solar flare is still hitting the atmosphere then there's a very good chance ste will see them too, if he's not getting wrecked in the pubs and clubs
