Throughout the decades of dance music, there have been stages of a certain genre experiencing extreme popularity and then fading away. I remember the happy hardcore craze. At present the current fad is 'bassline' which I really can't stand.

What would have been the first fad, techno? Can anyone name all the fads and the timelines?

Cheers:thumbsup:

Techno a fad:| No way think again

For me Hip house was a fad and one i hated always:S

In regards to the first, Jesse Saunders strated introducing electronic guitars into tracks like Mr Lee & Co...Shoot Your Best Shot. Being 1986 it is likely to be one of the first fads which was short lived.

Sorry dude that was a poor choice of an example:condom:

You get the jist of the post though. I just want to find out all the faddy genres that have come and gone over the years.

Also I think there will be a geographical difference. Up north at the moment its all bassline, and I know down south people have a slightly different taste. When I have worked down south I have always noticed how big D&B is.

88 to 92 saw loads of fads that lasted around a year not because the music had a short shelve life but just mainly cos the melting pot of creativeness was so fast moving.
Hip house is a good example i think, even tho it saw tunes thru 88-92 you never really got hip house after those years. that raw harsh belgium holy noise style techno was only really 1991. The sheffield Bleep and Bass sound 1990.
1993 saw a lot of hardcore with a dark twist, ragga basslines and less hands in the air pianos as it was becoming what was later jungle and drum and bass... hardcore that kept the pianos got speeded up and happy and daft:D

I still like a bit of Speed garage! phones:

Don't think you could ever say techno was a fad man, it's been going over 20 years and has always had a massive following.

no m8, but one that really boils my piss is dubstep, utter bollocks lol ;)

Totally agree. Maybe its just that I havent heard the good stuff.. but a guy I know does a dubstep radio show and from what i've heard, it sucks! He raves about Planet Mu...utter cow shit if you ask me (i guess thats where they got their name!).

I always thought it would just be a fad and people would get over it... but unfortunately they haven't.

Seconded.

Though it seems to have a massive leaning towards dubsteppy stuff at the moment & to have forgotten the more electronic stuff- though I might be overlooking a lot of the label's current output.
There is a lot of really good dubstep but it has been ruined through overreliance/overuse of the Bwarp, bwarp.
