A few years ago I decided to jack my job in and go down a different career path. I was a joiner/shopfitter and I had done that type of work since leaving school. I was sick of the whole construction scene and then I got laid off because of the recession, so I thought stuff it and enrolled on a college course and started to do some voluntary work. After a year of doing voluntary work (only 4 hours a week) I got offered a part time job. Im just about to finish a two year college course and in september Im going to do a degree!

Get the qualifications and do something you enjoy.
I couldn't imagine wasting more than a couple of months of my life in a job I don't enjoy. Life is all to short and precious to conciously keep doing something that makes you unhappy.
I can't admit to loving my job, or all of the people I work with 100% of the time. But if it's less than 50% for a continual amount of time; and I'm unable to see light at the end of the tunnel; then I know it will harm my motivation to put 100% in.

My job is great, I am a chartered surveyor so have loads of variety and I am based from home although visit building sites for about 50% of the time. I work for a great boss although hours can be long and stressful.

All great at the moment.

Work to live me:thumbsup: So you can do things you want to do and get things you want to get etc

Im an information analyst/developer and to be honest I have always liked tinkering with computer software so playing around with microsoft sql, databases and spreadsheets all day isnt all that bad lol

Dont enjoy it all the time but on the odd occasion get a feeling of a job well done when youve acheived summat, so it will do

As my username suggests im a postman of 16 years and to be honset i love it(except in the snow).Being out and about is great, meeting people and being on your own(no bosses on ya back)is great and living 5 mins walking distance from work is ideal. The downside can be irate customers and evil dogs that want to rip you apart and i suppose the money could be better but i manage fine.:)

The best thing about it is I have just missed out on the tuition fees increase so rather than £27k worth of debt I will only be in approximately £12k of debt, which I can handle. I would have seriously reconsidered if I would have had to pay £8500-£9000k a year. The only down side is that I don't have as much money as I used too.

I realy do feel lucky with my age, I lived through an era with simply the best music and social scene for years (maybe ever in my eyes although my mum gives a great case for the 60's). I got my education for nothing including university and I left with £0 debt despite only getting a minimum grant. I have also been lucky enough to buy a house at the right time and been able to climb that ladder too, no chace for 1st time buyers at the moment......£30K deposit!!! think again.

Unfortunately I have found that having BSc (Hons) after my name has helped me massively and allowed me to chose a job which I love and without it I would not now be chartered too. I feel sorry for you guys going through education now, effectively having to buy qualifications.

I've had my ups and downs with my job and the company i'm at, but since I left the company and went working with another firm just before Christmas, then got lots of texts and phonecalls from my old boss to come back under better terms, i've been mostly loving my job ever since:)

My boss looks like Borat and he's got a good sense of humour, so I knocked up a poster of him (after a safety talk) and pinned it to his office window and he found it hysterical, so he's now made it a permanent feature in the kitchen:lol: He loved it
