The old dance now classified as old skool started with acid house in the late 80s. The first tune I can name is Jack Your Body which came out in 1987. Which dance tune can you name which you can first remember coming out?

Oooh, that’s taking me back a bit. So many I’d like to say I remember… but in truth, the first dance type record I do remember, cause i bought it, was Street Sounds UK Electro back in 1984. I was 12… and it was the cassette version which I used to listen to on my sony walkman. Happy days!

Movin' on up.
Probably for me Depeche Mode - New Life in 1981 (not actually classed as Dance I guess).

However, New Order - Blue Monday from 1983 has to be regarded as a proper old skool track and one of the first I heard.

Tune

Also loved Just can't get enough back then

Would say that DM, Visage, OMD & Soft Cell were my first experience of 'electronic music'

'Dance music' by the strict definition of being able to dance to it was probably Abba, 2 Tone & Madness & Rockabilly stuff like Stray Cats.

I also have very fond memories of this

Living in a boozer in North Derbyshire from 78 - 82, I was subjected to plenty of sounds; punk, disco, teddy boy amongst others.
What stood out for me aged 10 at the turn of the 80s, was disco and the effect it had on people when someone put something like BeeGees, SugarHill Gang, Lipps Inc etc on the 'jukey'.

For this reason, 'Disco' gets my vote.

Loved the early eighties still do! the late eighties went down hill for me with the 4/4 beat dominating (funkless),love me beats a good beat makes a tune sound so much more special & makes you really want to dance!.....

Tune that Monty

I'm with you... there are very few tunes that I think benefit from a straight 4/4... all my favourites are break based.
