How about a digital vs vinyl night.

I'd be quite happy to fight the digital corner against anyone of the 17000+ users on here for a laugh (with webcam). Any style. (Speaks the ninja)

The gauntlet has been thrown...

I'd be interested in playing newer music too, on whatever night was deemed appropriate.

A larger shoutbox is something I've requested since I joined. It really is hard work to use at the moment.

music policy was more relaxed until the new stuff being played started to outweigh the old stuff - had to revert to what the sites all about or change the name :D

it would be good now and again but not sure how to keep it now and again without it overrunning stuff again

how big dyas want the shoutbox just a bit bigger than now or loads bigger, the shoutbox we use dont have a full screen option unfortunately we did put on a flashchat chat room years ago but noone used it as it wasnt on the front page

i like the sound of naked bird dj's on webcams tho - i think i might have just made that up though from picking out bits of posts.. :D lol

I think the problems are;

Facebook has taken away a lot of posting from ALL forums

A lot of people have moved on in their lives and settled down/less time due to work etc

We're all that bit older as well and maybe don't listen to old skool stuff as much as we did a few years ago, I really dig Jazz Fm these days with their late night downtempo lounge slot and the funk stuff they play during the day

Loads of other sites have sprung up trying to be like OSA but failing badly and just a few cliquey people joining and posting on them all - pretty pointless really but people have to try an imitate and it is a form of flattery after all ;)

The solutions ?

Integrate OSA with Facebook so that posts can be liked/tagged easily and encourage more interaction as this is the way forward nowadays and the more that talk about it are likely to listen/pass on the link which would pull in more listeners.

What about having scheduled styled days, examples

Monday - Hip Hop/Electro/Soul/Funk
Tuesday - Techno/Acid/New Beat
Wednesday - Deep House/Garage
Thursday - Dubby House/Progressive
Friday - Anthems/Breakbeats/Jungle etc
Saturday - Anthems/80's guilty pleasures
Sunday - Chill Out/Downtempo/Lounge/New tracks allowed

You'd then have an idea of what to expect on a certain day, like a proper radio station (think Sunset 102)

It would also break up the same old same old that we suffer from and I think could pull in different crowds and have more people chatting/posting on the forums about the different styles of tunes played, especially hip hop/electro and the downtempo stuff that doesn't get enough air time.

I'll return with some random sets in 2012, won't be the usual stuff though - something completely different

Full screen shoutbox would be ace. With time of last entry, so you're not vainly trying to talk to somebody who said hello 9 hours ago.

I like Pepe's idea of a drop down extended shoutbox as mentioned by Kev and given there's already 2 drop bits around the shoutbox that keep it neat when they're not being read, then it would also probably work really well.

Hope it's technically possible:thumbsup:

proper scheduling(peeps are more likely to tune in if they know someone is playing) video, seen it on a few sites n it's cool as fook being able to watch a dj as well as listen. some new mixes on the autobot

Theres over 27 hours worth of my osa radio broadcasts, on my website, and not many tunes are repeated. Mods feel free to download em and have em on the auto:thumbsup:

there is something on the net DJ AM wrote about promotion, promoting a gig, or in this case OSA as website /radio show as a vehicle for what you and you only want to play and hear, even tho it isnt commercially viable.
Thats how osa is going.
Its an oldskool site we only play oldskool. Its fucking crazy, there's no listeners, dj's who wanna play are being fucked off (i see brens gone) but you keep playing that old fucking shite.
Yeah i like oldskool, yeah i lived through it the first time round, yeah its nice to go to a retro night, but ffs the world has turned since then and there has been some fucking BLINDING choons since 1992 right till today.. that last mix i upped nothing was older then 2010 ffs.
A reed that refuses to bend with the winds of change deserves to snap, if it keeps up, OSA will end up proper niche, with a clique of 5 or so dj's tonguing each others arse with 20 or so listeners doing likewise.

Lol, if whoever wrote that feels like that then they shouldnt be hanging around on oldskool sites surely??

People come to this site to hear oldskool music

The clue is in the site name ;) like Butty said, he doesn't mind the odd set of new stuff, just not all the time

Agreed!

Fact is, there's plenty of good 'other' music full stop. Just log on to Soundcloud and you're away...

Like Dan says, the people who come on here have a common interest, that common interest is Oldskool. If that common interest was 'Music' or even 'Dance Music', the site would become far too diverse and people would lose interest... Just my 2p's worth :)

If you don't like the site then bugger off, or stop causing trouble :p

There must be plenty of other sites to peddle new music and there's nobody stopping anyone listening to one of those, or playing there

I think the buttman is pretty fair allowing new stuff now and then. How hard is it to mix it up and chuck a bit of old school in for the punters here anyway if you wanna mix a bit of new stuff ffs?

No mate. The site is what it is and that's what it's always been, so not sure what the problem is? There's nothing much wrong with it apart from less people posting here at the moment, but people ebb and flow in all walks of life and every forum out there.

Like everything, if you don't like it then move along quietly and maybe you'll feel different again some day:thumbsup:

If someone has spat their dummy because they can't play 'exclusively' new music on here either, should remember that it is an old school school site at the end of the day  It looks to me like butty's tried to meet people wanting to play new stuff half way, but it's still not enough for some

I've no doubt there's loads of great new music out now, but i'm also certain that most people have only scratched the surface with great older music too.

Anyway mucka, i'm gonna get my arse over to bod and huxley's night now, so i'll have to catch up with you again  :D

my 2 penneth , this is the only site i check out apart from facebook. i dont come here to listen to oldskool, i come here to interact with people that were either a part of the oldskool scene back in the day or are here because they have an intrest in it, yet as for the radio. theres no way i want to listen to oldskool day in day out :naughty: everyone moves on, i love all sorts of music. i feel blessed that i was part of a movement that was so special for a couple of years it will stay with me for ever, but i dont want to live in the past 24/7 its fascinating hearing what djs who are here because they were part of the movement that happend back in the day are into now, phones:

the site oozes oldskool by the pound. just ceck out the other sections. but to be fair anyone who was into oldskool can more than appreciate music that came befor and after that little slot in the calander that brought us here

I'm in total agreement with this. I find if it's not house music you're playing you have more chance of nailing jelly to the wall than getting a decent amount of listeners...
