Has anybody got them or used them? I may be after some compact CDJ's for messing around on maybe even get myself on the OSA radio?? Got pair of 800 mkII's and they are nice an easy to use but want to leave with my main set up. Used to have years ago a set of 100's which to be blunt were quite nasty and became gritty to use.

Is the 400 more of a 800 or more a 100's? Also I would want to flightcase (maybe the DJM400/CDJ400 set) and use tracks from hard drives not cd's. What are the lantencys like as I realy have a problem with delays when using Traktor and my Vestax 100 mkII

Thanks Simon

400's are great. I believe they have the same platter technology as the 800's... so the quality is very good. I use 2 x 16gb sticks, and load up time is fine... but i wouldn't want to go much larger, as it could take a while if swapping sticks. Not used them with usb harddrives, so cant really comment on that.

They also support midi, so you can actually hook them up to Traktor if you like... however when i tried this, I did notice a bit of latency, so have never really tried it again.

Great little decks. Thoroughly recommend.

Thank you for your reply. I have 2x 800 mkII's which are very easy to use and I like the platter control. I have a VCI which I have decided that I simply do not like due to latancy issues.....im not good enough to mix with delays. In fact im just not very good (in my eyes or ears)

The idea was to use my mp3's on the 400's although understand that they will need to be split into quite a few folders. How many tracks do you get on 16gb stick? maybe thats the way to go?

Thanks again, selling vci and saving for CDJ 400's/DJM400 and flight case for messing around with.

Why not sell the CDJ's and buy Serato if you already have 1210's?

There's nothing like keeping the mixing by using vinyl to manipulate the audio.

You won't have any issues that way either although I wouldn't use mp3s as they take longer to analize - use wav files instead, may take up more space but the quality is worth it and I've never had any problems using wavs.

About 900-1000 mp3's!!! So quite a lot :) If I am playing out (which isnt very often anymore), I normally only have about 400 tunes on a stick tbh... and load the same lot of mp3s on both sticks. Initial load up time to read the stick, takes about 30-40 seconds (but it all depends how many tunes you have on the stick)... so you need to make sure you have that time spare on the outgoing tune, when you first stick the stick in (plus time to pick the right tune/cue up etc).

The 400's can read upto 10,000 folders.. and 10,000 files in a single folder.. so you wont have any problems there. Worth remembering though that you can not play files in folders exceeding 8th heirarchy level (if that makes sense).. but to be honest, you dont really want to have too many folder levels, as it makes it difficult to navigate. I personally just have them all in a single folder, (and i have them tagged with their bpm) so i can easily just use the scroll wheel to scroll through the entire collection without having to go in and out of a folder all the time. The only problem with this is it can be a bit difficult to see what the track name is (especially cause i have the bpm at the beginning of the track name)... as the display is a little small (number of characters).

Thank Blue Jammer, I dont have 1210's I have the better model being the 1200's;) in fact I have 6 of them!! The intention of the 400's would be to have something portable which I can mess around with maybe even do a few off peak slots on here? I am useless with technology and cant get the VCI working correctly (cant be as bad I how ive got mine so got to be something wrong with my set up). Serato again involves computers and im only likely to co(k it up again:cry:

Regarding mp3's vs wav's, I have got both in fact I dont have a wav or mp3 without owning the record too (lie I have CTI dancing ghosts on mp3 without the vinyl). My issue is that my set up and records are down stairs, computer is upstairs in the study meaning its difficult to connect the 2. Have laptops etc and could do it that way but prefer hard wired.

Coma Project, the display is my only issue. Regarding bpm's hopefully after 23 years of djing (well I call it that) I can beat mix and the platter on the 800's if the same make beatmixing very easy. Also the display provides a bpm counter which although not always accurate does spped things up. Heirarchy...I get you, folder within a folder.....no things would be very simple, type of music folder and thats it.

Time to start saving as just about to cough up for 2x tickets to Oz, Mrs xmas present etc. Anybody want to by a good condition left hand kidney?

^^^ yeah, the bpm's not there to help me beat mix.. its there so that my tunes are ordered in some sort of bpm order in the folder. I find it helps.

Anyway, good luck with selling your kidney
