Need Assistance what does Serato actually do?

OK so Ive got my eyes on a set of Technics 1210 Mk II's from a guy i used to work with.

Whats the crack with this Serato? Im kinda confused what does it actually do. Obviously Im gonna have to start vynil collection from scratch if I go through with it but i do have a shit load of MP3's to use.

Any advice on this please :)

well serato is actually for laptops mac is the best for serato you get the software with serato which you load on your laptop any laptop will do but my mate uses his mac cause you cant get viruses on mac which is vital so imagine having record bag when your going to do a gig in a nightclub take ya laptop and serato with ya but u still use decks but your laptop is been the record bag if you like and you cue your music exc with ya laptop but still play the music from the decks

its really good if you got a really old record collection like me mate has his records are 20 years old alot of them so the sound is going on some of them but he rips his vinyl onto his laptop which takes some time doing but like i say serato is easy so u get 2 decks onlaptop left deck and right deck and pick mp3 you want to play drag it to right deck on laptop and then play on the right deck which is your technic great bit of kit

and also a good mixer is also an advantage cause the serato plugs into your mixer not your decks like i said sorry cause your cueing the music from the mixer ill try explain bit more easy for ya the serato plugs into your mixer then the serato then plugs into your laptop and your decks plug into your mixer so the software you get with serato loads onto your laptop and when its loaded onto your laptop you get a display showing 2 decks and your mp3's will be loaded like my mate he has night he calls greatest beats which is funk hip hop and soul so all his greatest beats mp3's are named greatest beats and his oldskool house is named rewind cause he dj's at a night called rewind so them mp3 are named rewind so if your doing a night yourself you name the folder whatever you want to call it take ya serato and laptop but the venus has to have technics set up and a mixer that can have serato fitted if not take your own then set it up its really easy to set up then after you set it all up open the laptop showing the display of 2 decks get your mp3 for the genre of music that you are playing get a tune loaded onto the deck on your laptop then you cue it from the deck which is the technic and you mix it like you would a record but your picking your tunes from the list of mp3's from the laptop

but the thing you got to remmember is that if your wanting to dj at a night then serato comes in handy cause some dj booths are not that big and if you got 3-4 djs on that night with all playing from vinyl then it does get cramped thats why my mate uses serato for one of them reasons also but when hes at home he uses his vinyl more which he does prefer but serato is still vinyl so if someone says to you your playing from a laptop say no im not im still playing from decks which is still the same but your serato is your record bag

can you ah right and my honest opion the mac is the better out of the laptops for serato thats in my opion my mates and woodys cause they both use serato and both have macs :)

cause the apple doesnt crash as much as any other laptop or pc the set up of the mac is more suited for dj's that do gigs im not a dj but im going by what others say that have used laptops and pcs just to experiment and they say the mac is more powerful and more reliable then any other but thats not to say other laptops and pcs cant run serato if you have the right specs but they say the mac is the most easy and better suited cause of its functions

if i was to only use serato at home then any laptop would do what has enough specs to run serato or pc but if you dj alot then always on the go then mac is the better option out the lot if you have the money but if you havent and you have pc and laptop id use pc for home use and laptop for serato

Rane make mixers with Serato 'built in' so no need for an SL box to connect between mixer & lappy (you USB from mixer directly to lappy), you can also control your 'crate' plus cue points & loop from the mixer itself meaning you don't need to arse about with a lappy at all :thumbsup:

This is mine altho there are newer versions just released, best mixer I've ever used... as well as the Serato stuff the x fade & the upfades are the slickest I've ever used. :love:

I have to say oldskoolnick you seem to be overcomplicating a program which is renowned for It's simplicity. The bottom line is you play tunes from your laptop onto a timecoded piece of vinyl or Cdj that acts and feels just like real vinyl/Cdj. Instead of picking choonz from your record box you pick them on your lappy. I've had 3 now not because they break but because I was gonna buy the same mixer as shooms and I changed my mind several times. The last 2 serato's I picked up for £180 so shop around mate :-D
