Just looked at going to Glasgow on Saturday for the football.

Inverness to Glasgow £158 return for 2 of us. 3hrs 14mins each way

What a complete and utter overprice.

I can make it to Glasgow in less than 3hrs in a car and would only cost about £30 if even that.

Definitely for longer trips. It would cost me around that to do a London return. We are the most expensive nation in Europe for train journeys which is bollocks while the trains and rail infrastructure here are amongst the worst.

That said, local fares are brilliant:thumbsup: I can do Manchester return for less than £4 and even the Manchester airport train one way cost me less than £4 (taxi wanted £55, one way), so more people should use them for visiting their neighbouring cities

Leeds to Manc costs about the same as the car…(and then probably more if you need to go somewhere else after reaching the other side).

Our busses in Leeds are an absolute joke. We get taxis if there are more than one of us, and it's cheaper than the bus!!!!

Is that including parking and wear and tear? How much is Manchester to Leeds return?

I don't use buses ever (and I rarely use trains in all honesty), but I usually use a train to go to Manchester, but then Manchester is easy enough to walk around for able bodied people, so it's no real hassle when I go there to do a bit of shopping:thumbsup:

For less that £4 too there and back it's a steal:D

if you can book in advance, like 4 weeks or more, then trains can be very cheap. booking on the day is a complete rip off and going before 10a.m ish.

also a very good web site is megabus.com as they now do train journeys too. i have used these a few times to get to london from birmingham, some journeys as little as £1 no more than £7, all on virgin trains too going the quickest route. it costs me double the price in a taxi from birmingham city centre to my home 9 miles away than my journey to or from london. they do a few different routes so might be worth a browse see if there's anything on there. Their buses are shit nightmare though and take hours dont touch the bus routes !!
