Pink makes the boys wink....
It is called the Quartz Lock isn't it?

That's what i've always called it anyway:thumbsup:

What is "Quartz" or "Quartz Lock?"
The Quartz Lock system is a very accurate method of controlling the rotational speed of the turntable's platter. It works by generating a reference frequency via the oscillation of a quartz crystal. As the platter rotates, it creates a frequency of its own via a frequency generation coil. The turntable's control system compares the reference frequency to the generated frequency and adjusts the speed of the platter to keep them matched. If you were to remove this system, the turntable would have no method of monitoring the platter's speed and would therefore rotate erratically, if at all.

I too can vouch for Sam, took a couple of weeks but I had mine resprayed glossy black which is what took the time. The new phonos and service etc would have only took a few days on their own. Sam can remove the ground wire and earth it internally anyway Jim so you'll get your wish. Mine are like new, super smooth and perfectly responsive. Defo worth having done imo, especially if yours are old. You'd never guess mine are over 20years old  :D
Ps.. not sure what happened with the smilie at the top, obviously sausage fingered it!

Happy days on the earth wire mod:thumbsup: There's few things that annoy me more than feedback when i'm mixing

Happy days on the quartz lock removal too. Guess it was nice for radio shows to have when most of them used the decks in the studios, but they're the bane of anybody not wanting to have to adjust the pitch of both decks in a mix.

I might look into a MK5 pitch too in one of the decks. Anybody know roughly how much that mod costs?

I should have reported back and said that Sam is a top bloke and did a brilliant job of removing the quartz lock, doing the earth wire removal mod and giving them a full service

Definitely check him out if yours need servicing, or you need any mods doing:thumbsup:
