Who uses IPA to clean their Vinyl?
I'm just on with ordering a bottle and was wondering what ratio water/IPA you use in the mix...
50/50 maybe?

I've got a spray bottle and some nice cloths and am ready to get cleaning.

Not me (as yet)

Having just ruined an ortofon stylus though, I'm up for trying it if others can post up some tips?

A lot of my vinyl has been stored in a cellar where there's been some damp, resulting in damage to the covers and a residue on the vinyl where it just skips right across if you try to play it.

So, I've been using Mr Sheen/Pledge over the years with great results, usually Morrison's own brand stuff.

The latest Mr Sheen though seems thicker and I use an old Stanton cart/styli to play through after I've sprayed the record first and then wipe down with a cloth, there seems to be traces of Mr Sheen still on the records though and I'm convinced this has ruined the last stylus (only bought about 3-4 months back - glad I had a spare)

Anyway, what tips can others share - be great if there was something you could just apply to the records and wipe clean without having to play them through as it takes ages doing them and I tend to only clean a side that I want to play haha

This is what I had in mind. I found a really dirty record at the back of a crate whilst digging in a shop and asked the geezer behind the counter if I could have money off because of this. (it was marked as £5, I suggested £2). Anyway he pulled out this spray bottle, gave it a squirt and wiped it dry with a duster... the record came up brand new looking and he still knocked the price! :D I don't know what was in the bottle but the way it cleaned and dried in seconds leads me to believe its this IPA stuff .

Miracle juice?

That does sound like it could be good for dusty records but I'm not convinced it will clear the grooves?

I'm sure others on here have used this stuff before, hopefully they'll reply with results :D

Yes I use IPA. The issue you will have is lifting the dirt from the vinyl as wetting dust and dirt creates a muddy residue which needs lifting away from the vinyl. If not it can harden and make things worse.

I clean by IPA 50% distilled water 50% with few drops of fotoflo to chemically break the water down. I pour on and brush in with very fine bristle fabric and spin backwards and forward and then vac on my loricraft. For 90% of records this is enough and does a great job. Some of the expensive records get a 2nd clean with art du san and vac.

I bought a 90-93 collection of approx 900 records which had been stored 10 years in a garden shed, couple have suffered scratches but remaining records are fine, at least vg. This includes records which were dusty, mouldy and genuinely basket cases.

I use any of a combination of things, depending on the problem.

More filthy records that i've bought from someone's grotty abode or forgotten cellar, then I usually start with 'am Record Cleaner' and a lint free cloth, but for less dirty records that are a bit dusty, I use either a Nagaoka Rolling 152 for lifting loose dirt out of the grooves, or a carbon brush, or a velvet pad, or a combo of any.

I've still got an almost full bottle of IPA from years ago, but can't say it's any better than the spray on 'am Record Cleaner' solution, but I can say it's less convenient than the spray on solution, as it comes.

Fairy Liquid in luke warm water method always works a treat for me... then wipe down with IPA to remove static :)

Don't try the PVA glue method, unless you wan't to spend 3 days picking dry glue off a single record. Aside from that, it works great ;)

I presume you still need to play each record through after fairy liquid / IPA or other combos?

I want something quick and easy, ideally 1 method only as I've got LOADS to clean when move house next month

I bet they are great, great to own and to use. WAY too expensive though, i'm sure they are worth every pound. I won't be stretching though. Going to order my IPA and fill me squirty bottle with a 50/50 mix and rub down/dry off with a nice lint free cloth.

Keeping it cheap :head:
