What it says on the tin.

If you were to be stranded on an island and could only take 5 mixes with you, which would they be and why. Doesnt necessarily have to be anyone famous, could be a friend, one of your own or some unknown mix and can be any genre. If we get a good selection here it would be nice to share and compile some reccomendations with each other that we may not have heard or overlooked in the past. Gunna have to have a good think about this one myself before posting as I only came up with the idea today at work and havent even given it any thought yet. Look forward to your suggestions.

Happy trawling and dont eat all the coconuts :)

will need to be 5 that I was at really...

Dave Seaman..Shelleys..Children in need...
Sasha..Chuff Chuff, Venus...A Midwinters Court
Amnesia House...1990...anywhere in the Midlands
NYE 1990 Shelleys...every dj's playing in the tape that lives inside my head.
Vodka & Lime (coconut cocktails to follow)

Can't give it a serious answer, toooo much choice and the severity of being in solitude again for the next umpteen years secretly fried my brain and has now short circuited... tonight Mathew....I'm going to be....Heather Small from M people...

I wish, wish, wish...that I had some of the more obscure tapes that I used to have, early 1990 illegal parties and warehouse type events, they all prob got taped over aswell...which is the gutting thing, I can still hear a second or so of the music on some tapes, when the machine flicked it over to record the other side automatically.
I went to some awsome Spectrum gigs and Amnesia House gigs in 1990, somewhere...

My 5:

Hardcore mix (i would do myself)
I would rather listen to my own mix & giving me huge mighty positive energy adrenaline rush from the beats

Electro Hip Hop Mix (i would do myself)
Again i would rather listen to my own mix & go back into time when it was all about Electro drum machines scratching reminiscing

http://www.discogs.com/Plump-DJs-Elastic-Breaks/release/23556
Amazing mix by the plumps never get sick of hearing it gets me thinking & wakes up the brain cells

http://www.discogs.com/Blu-Peter-Hard-House/release/100355
Another great mix all tunes are superb again gets me thinking & wakes up the brain cells

Italo DMP mix
The DMP mixes are great to listen to i would need some Italo spacey analogue synths with sexy female vocals.

One on the Blu Peter mix! :D

One off the top of my head would have to be 'Liam Howlett - Dirtchamber Sessions Vol 1'. A superb mix. Ed

Yes, I caught a glimpse of that as I was typing my response & thought, definite contender. It is a great mix, as is also DJ Food/DK Solid Steel- Now listen mix

Still not got a full list but the first ones that spring to mind are

Sasha And John Digweed* ‎– Northern Exposure 2
http://www.discogs.com/Sasha-And-John-Digweed-Northern-Exposure-2/master/1416

Have listened to this many times and disc one I never get bored of and can always put on and play the whole way through. Love the blend of styles from acid, breakbeat and you cant go wrong with Spooky's Little Bullet. First time I heard Hybrids Symphony too and instantly fell in love with it

Another is Greg Wilsons Essential Selection mix. Always comes out in the summer for a dust off, perfect accompaniment to the sangria sessions we have here. Some great classics and re-edits
BBC - Radio 1 - Essential Mix - Tracklisting

Will have a think about some more to add later :)

Top choice Ed:thumbsup:

Hybrid's Ministry Of Sound essential mix has long been a favourite, but I haven't played it for a very long time. Some of my favourite mixes i've heard as of late have only been 10-35 mins long, so i'd probably feel a bit shortchanged taking any of those. My DJ Conran tape of very early 'prog', with scratching (yes it really did work the way he did it) from back in the day would be a perfect summer mix, but the tape isn't great quality in this day and age.

I'm kinda thinking the same way as Monts then. A few long DIY ones of some of my favourite styles electro, funk, soul, hip hop, breaks, liquid DnB and maybe one or 2 mixes of whoever's rocking my world at any given moment. Maybe a Benny D funk mix from one of his radio shows too, if he ever recorded one

Ask me again in summer though and i'd probably choose lighter mixes than those i'd choose now.

Good Thread - will be checkin a few out. Theres also plenty of DJs on here I love to here as I know guaranteed a top mix.

Id take in no order

Nipper (v Westy). - This was the mix that made me go out and buy decks so is particulary meaningful to me.

Best of Mixmag Live - love the mix - brilliantly mixed and put together, so many styles of dance 10/10 for me.

Id have one of Matts Liappiates chillout mixes - cant remember the number but in fairness they are all fantastic. There is one Im particulary fond of as the tunes are great as is the mixing n structure. Plus you would need a chillout mix on a desert island:cool:

Jack G -Bedroom session - Id got to have one of my own in. ;)Old mix of mine on cassette before I got techy n knew about recording to mp3/cd, not 100% sure where the tape is now thinks its at my mums but was a bangin mix with some technically difficult mixing which I somehow pulled off.phones:

Id have to have a prog mix but not made my mind up yet...will edit when I do:turn:
