got home from work today to find that my mixer (DJM500) is distorting out of all channels.
absolutely gutted as it has served me so well. I have no idea what the problem is.
has anyone experienced something similar and if so can you advise me on what you think it might be?

i'm going to have to find someone to service it, otherwise it might be a case of goodbye my sweet friend
cheers
sam.

I had problems with my Allen & Heath Xone:92 the guy who fixed it took him a good while to work out what was wrong with it,the filters was throwing out some screaming distorting sound but the guy finally worked out that something on the rails in the power supply section of the mixer had blown (something like that) so it could just be something that i would take it to get repaired it could be just a component that cost £1.99 or it could be something really bad but i would not give up on it straight away it is always worth someone to take a look at it.

I have not received my mixer back yet but he said he has fixed it & is bringing to me maybe this weekend i am so looking to having a quick mix then selling it to buy a different mixer.

PS:There was not enough power getting the filter section which was causing a screaming distorting sound so maybe that has happened to yours also if someone takes a look at it for you mention something might of blown in the power supply section of your mixer.

It is a nightmare waving goodbye to old mixers etc. Regarding the 500, mine is going strong however try looking at the fx unit or master out unit. 500's are a little notorious for dry solders also a problem my 14ish year old one is not suffering however has been retired to study studio. Sounds silly but maybe worth £4 at maplin and clean all switches with specialist switch cleaner. This sorted out my A&H S2 cross fader and saved me circa £180.

thanks Monty, the little I could find on the web mentioned something about power supply. Below is an answer some other random posted in a question forum:

"The first thing that comes to mind is that these units usually use op-amp ICs for buffers on the output lines. These ICs are either defective, or you have lost one of the power supplys. In any case, this is not a simple thing to trace without some test gear. I suggest that you bring this to an audio repair shop. If the ICs are defective, they cost less than $1 each and you will need at least 2".

thanks also Simon, the effects unit has been playing up, and I will defo be investing in some switch cleaner.

thanks guys, I feel a bit better about it now. Will get a geezer I know on the case :thumbsup::thumbsup:

ok... it's not the mixer :$ ... phew!

It looks like the power IC SVI3205 may have blown in my amplifier. I use an old technics SU-V460.
A few simple checks found this out, I should have checked myself in hind sight.

In searching the web though I found this company that service Pioneer gear. Not cheap but possibly a quality service Videotec - Pioneer CDJ, DJM & EFX Servicing and repairs

My mate that can has taken the amp off for a good clean and re-solder. I think the replacement part may cost a bit though. Still, rather that than my mixer
