Pink makes the boys wink....
Don't know if you have heard about this or if its a late April fools but apparantly Ken Livingstone is planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated 100M in the docklands. What do you think about it? Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities??
BIGGER THAN ST PAULS!!!
The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will it see it as the biggest landmark in London , bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium

Take a second to cast your vote in The Evening Standard on-line poll to determine public opinion about whether a mega mosque should be built for the Olympics.

The vote so far is 62 % in favour. It looks like the Muslim community is casting its vote in droves, and as usual all others religions are burying their heads in the sand....

Who actually gives a fuck, its not like goverments waste our money all the time is it?

At least its not being wasted on nuclear weapons we have no need for, that annoys me more

As far as I am aware it is being funded by the moslems not the taxpayer

'Scuse my ad hoc answer, i have not heard owt about this to give a 'proper' answer.

As a none believer of any relig it makes not the slightest bit of diff what God is being celebrated (i really don't care for Budda, Jesus or indeed Alla), i don't give a rats ass if its bigger than St Pauls or whatever- its all the same crock of shit in my eyes. What gets my goat is that taxpayers money (if it is) is funding any religious centre. This money would be clearly better spent on other areas.

I don't see why people are up in arms because its a mosque  any more than they would be if its (another) church. Why is it so offensive to people? If its taxpayers money, then surley anyone who pays tax should have thier religion considered if we are to spend a fair chunk on a new place of worship. I don't see why Christians have the monopoly.

I'll only quote one of yer replies :D

Well... the h'official state religion is Church of England with her maj as both head of state & head of religion so I guess that makes Britain a Christian nation :)

Lol i am just trying to bump my post count.

If we were to take this view point, then surley we would have to carry it across the board.

We can have 'small' mosques, synagogue etc- as long as they are not too big or indeed bigger than the biggest Christian centre- soz but thats a wank.

Perhaps its time for a rethink on our Christian nation status ( lets be honest the whole reason we are C of E is a bloody shambles, Henry just wanted to do what he liked). At the time it was decided, we also had child labour, the death senny and other shite and all thats all been abolished.

I'm game :)

I would vote for bringing back the old Wican ways... that's coz deep down I'm an old hippy & to be honest the cycle of nature means a lot more to me than the words of a good bloke that have been bastardised, twisted & have lost the original meaning... organised religion or dogma of any sorts gets my back up...

To be honest... who does organised religion of any denomination serve other than the formalised structure of itself ? When you look at the absolute poverty of a place like Meh 'hico & the squalor that people live in while their churches are decked out perfectly... it's sickening...

I agree, hence me saying that its the fact that taxpayers (if its true) money is being spent on summat so immoral (imo) regardless of chosen God. I am not arsed what God, just let the supporters pay for it themselves.

You could have a jacuzzi in every council baths across the land for that 100millski!

I agree, money wud well be better spent on hospitals etc, just dont get it. Everythin has to be bigger and better, yet a waste of money eg the millenium dome. :condom:

I wouldn't be chuffed either- but my reasons are diff to those who say simply because its non Christian. In addition to those already stated, i also think that aesthetically (sp) it would piss me off. The same as fuck off sky scrapers or really naff new housing estates in once lush fields (we have one about 5 miles from us that looks like a mini New England- all wood pannelled and painted blue and sheet :axe:).Surley you oppose these, as they are not really what i think of when i think of trad England.

As for the Church in an Islamic counrty, i dare say you're right, but its a whole seperate debate and besides, an argument cannot be based on what would/would not happen in other country as its irrelivant.

People should be free to follow whatever God they like, without discrimiation.
