Got in early doors. Caught about an hour of Bucky's set. Quality warm up style tunes. Very, very nice... (pm'd you for a cheeky id fella )
Thought the venue was spot on. An underground car park.. If anyone's ever parked at the GMex it was like that but with a higher roof. (Oh and hacienda striped blocks suspended from the ceiling, 2 bars, a vip area, dance platforms, 2,000 people, Mike Pickering and Graeme Park and a f**k off sound system and lighting rig... ). The lighting especially was superb. Bucky - you need some brighter strobes mate.... Made a point of standing at the back and watching it every time I went for a water refill - class...
Down the front most of the night. Parky started with Gwen Guthrie's 'Seventh Heaven' and I thought I was going to sex wee....Carly Simon's "Why", some Soul 2 Soul - quality downtempo stuff, right up my street.
I thought Mike Pickering was amazing early on - Brooklyn Funk Essentials - Change The Track!!!!! phones: arrrrr yeeeeah! and he really got me going with some stuff I'd never heard mixed in with some classy Electro stuff. I've said before he's one of my all time fave DJ's and I think he might get slated for stuff he played later on, but a massive, massive for playing such a wide range of tunes.
I left about 1.30ish I think. Mainly because I was so knackered after NYE and my legs just couldn't dance anymore, but also because P&P were disappointing at times, too much 90's vocal garage for me, especially from Parky. But thats just my taste in tunes and they've got to cater for 2,000 people for 8 hours and play music to define an era from '82 to '96. Dancing like a loon to "Hip Hop, Don't Stop", "Dreamgirl" and "Can U Dance" and then having a rest for Mariah Carey and Judy Cheeks took its toll so I took the risk that the last 2 and a half hours would be much the same. Lol - I said to BlueJammer that they'd play sommat to make me regret my decision as I was walking out....on came Kechia Jenkins - "I Need Somebody" - b*stards....LOL.
Overall I had a top night - thanks sooo much to Bluejammer, SJ, Northern Star & MC Maddox (great to see you fella - get ur bum to Hazy again soon ) for their hospitality . Fab to meet Bucky and Konspiracy's lady. Loads of OSAers out - won't name all in case I miss anyone but it was top to see everyone. In fact the first thing I said to Ruth when I got home when she asked how it went was that it was just great being out with some top, top people.
Happy New Year everyone. Here's to 2005 (and another Hac night??? eh Bucky??? eh??? EH??? goooo onnnn! - lol)
