House DJs I respect r... James Zabiela, ...

great choice of respected dj's there fella  wont be arguing with any of those phones: and btw is zabiela the influence of bringin in the cdj1000 last saturday by any chance ;) hehe. to be honest, zabiela is my fave dj at present ..... and seems to be one of the only people out there who is really pushing the boundaries of live mixing & effects coupled with new technology phones: and yeah, he can scratch a bit too :D

loved the cutting up intro before moby @ hazy btw

PMSL... - good point there mate and very true....

some interesting points in your post there nipper mate, and sorry to hear that you leaving in Sept for good. hopefully they'll be one massive event before you go - maybe you could play 3-4 hours and show everybody whats influenced you music wise since 83. sure it'll be a sell out.

when you did the 'Not Forgotten' night for us in Manchester i was one of the gobsmacked few tryin to keep up with hand on the crossfader. the system there was by no means good but you managed to knock out a superb set regardless and thats the difference. nice guy as well, always time for a chat.

sign me up for the nipper osa scratchin skool of excellence as well.....!!

Sully.

"Reppin" (I was very slow with the name there) Some really good points and very interersting to hear some of your musical history. Playing with PE (in full effect!) must have been one of the highlights.
I know a lot of the Dj's who created the scence at the end of the 80's were heavy influenced by Hip hop, the same with the punters too (certainly the case with Sully and myself), can't speak for Jay Weardon but looking through his record box on Saturday night said a lot.
Couldn't agree more with the "superstar" Dj crap.
Although, thankfully we seem to be moving past tossers like Jeremy Healy/Boy Goerge and their associated clubs ie: gatecrasher, I couldn't think of a worse night than listening to a load of Judge Jules shite surrounded by a load of pretentious twats with retro mullets and wannabe Beckhams. There are some good altenative nights out there if you have a look around, where the artistry takes precedence (friends and family/ Electric Chair to name a couple) but granted it takes some effort to find them!!!
I could go on all day, Reppin before you shoot off on your travels, I think Sullys idea of a hip hop/musical influence night is a great idea. Whether someone will put it on and if you fancy it is another question?
Anyway bang on your shell toes and dig out the lino

Gotcha Talkin...Hehe !!!

To Danny, Sully and Danny C,

The reason I av cum online is to get my points across and so u can understand my perception on my passion and love of music and DJin. Its a gr8 opportunity 4 me 2b able to chat wiv u all and set da record straight about........................" DJ Nipper ."

1st. Danny..." James Zabiela ." Gr8 DJ and doin some gr8 tingz wiv dex and mixerz and progressing Dance Music as it shud be. Just chek out DJ Q-Bert, D-Styles though and their crew and listen to wot they can do wiv a pair of dex and a mixer. It can be too much for sum ppl but, ppl need to get their headz out of their arses and stop regressing with music and progress and listen to the fantastic tunez and DJs that r around now.

2nd. CDJ1000 CD dex....No Zabiela isnt why I brought the CD Player. Im an originator not a plagiarist. I do my own edits and mixes of Old Skool tunez on a computer that ppl dont realise I av done. I do this coz I am tryin 2 do new tingz wiv Old Skool and make an effort instead of goin out 2 DJ 4u ppl, gettin paid and f**kin off home. Unfortunately my efforts go unnoticed to many ppl but at least I TRY :( . It simply bores da s**t outta me to jus waltz into a club, bang on a few Old Skool records, not care about wot Im doin ( DJin ), not care about u ppl and only care about da benjaminz. It is very disheartening at timez 4me but, I persist in wot I do, hoping a few ppl will appreciate and acknowledge the time and effort I put into my sets.

3rd. I have spent 14 months in China DJin and 6months spent working for the only Dance Radio Show in Shanghai as well as DJing at all the Top Clubs in Shanghai too. Spending time with mates of mine when they DJd in Shanghai like Laurent Garnier and John Digweed. Old mates from when we all started out togeva. And now hold on to ur bootz coz this is goin to shok u. When I DJ in China...I DONT TOUCH OLD SKOOL, no way bro, I play Progressive, Tech House, Tribal and the wicked Nu-Skool Breakz. Wot the hell am I doin playin Old Skool when there is so much gr8 music around. The only time I eva play Old Skool is when I come bak 2 England. Why do u fink I disappeared from the Old Skool Scene ??? It did my head in coz there is only a certain amount u can do wiv Old Skool and it is quite difficult to mix wiv, not like tdayz progressive, tech house etc...Itz a dream to mix wiv and why Zabiela and co. can do such long mixes coz tdays records r designed 4da DJ.

4th. I only play Old Skool 4 all u ppl coz that is wot I am known 4 playin and ppl love to hear me play it. Sadly 4me Ive been pigeon-holed in England as an Old Skool DJ and now I cant play the music I love and feel 4. That is why when I return to China I can do and play all the new tunez I love without avin the shackles of Old Skool round my head and weighing me down. Its very frustratin and annoyin to av ppl constantly slaggin me off 4 playin Old Skool when ppl know absolutley F**K all about me. :S

5th. When I was DJin in Shanghai I was predominantly using CDs coz there is not one record shop in the whole of China. And for a year I honed my skillz wiv mixin CDz and records togeva. Nuffin to do wiv Zabiela Im afraid to say. I even had Chinese kids travellin to see me DJ from far away coz I was doin tingz they had neva seen b4 wiv 2dexz, 2 CDJ1000s or Denon s5000/s3000 and Pioneer DJm600. Wot a buzz that was !!!
Sadly, u will neva get the chance 2 c me DJ prog or tech house or nu-skool breakz coz of this mo fo Old Skool Tag I av in England.

Music is progressing Danny, it is inevitable, along wiv technology too and I dont regress bro, I progress wiv it coz I jus buzz off dat s**t...

6th. Sully and Danny C - A nite of music that has influenced me in DJin. Wow ! Hehehehe !!! :D ...I av a very funny feelin u dudez wud b shoked and it wud go way ova pplz headz. Im into - 60s/70s/80s Soul/Funk, Northern Soul, Hip Hop, Electro Funk, Ska, Jazz, All genres of Dance Music, Blues, Punk, GoGo and neting else that is gr8 music. I av a really broad eclectic taste in music and I wud b only to willin 2 DJ a nite where I cud play gr8 music that has inspired me to DJ in my career. I jus fink it wud b far too much for a lot of ppl who only expect Nipper 2 play mo fo Old Skool...itz a nice thought though and wonderful concept...mayb, jus mayb we cud arrange it b4 I return back to China where I am free to DJ, play and mix new tunez I feel so passionately about.

I av jus finished an Old Skool Mix CD that will b out soon. It took me nearly a month to do usin 2turntables, a mixer and a PC and u will be able to sit bak a listen 2 Nipper like neva b4.

nipz, reading that second to last post, I understand you have a love and passion for the new music you play and that's what interests you most...but it almost sounds as if you dislike oldskool now, watching you on saturday was a pleasure and a masterclass and you looked like you were loving it...was that not the case though? or was it the atmosphere and not the music?

Nipper, couldn't agree more without sounding patronising........a night of lets say.....Herbie Hancock/Roy Ayers/Gill Scott Heron/John Coltrane/Curtis Mayfield/Miles Davies/John Lee hooker/jacq pastore/james brown/bobbie womack/ All the "Blacxploitation" hard funk stuff/All the Northen Soul - ie Twisted Wheel, Wigan casino (too many tunes to name!)/Eisley Brothers/bill withers/Run Dmc/ultramagnetic MC's/Public Enemy/Eric B and Rakim/Kool DJ Herc/KRS 1/Beastie Boys/Bismarkee/Tribe Called Quest/Pharcyde/the clash/stylistics/specials/Kraftwerk/New Order/Coldcut. etc etc etc.

Getting carried away there apologies ha ha. I would be absolutely well up for a night like that. Can apreciate it wouldn't be evryones taste who comes on here, but as you rightly say its about expanding the mind and......lets call it an apreciation of the roots of music.

Its a pity you have that perception about being tagged with the old school stuff, theres not many Dj's that have made the transition to a modern style succesefully. I suppose Sasha being a notable exception, but you clearly have a wide ranging taste, which I for one would certainly pay to listen to

I'll keep my eye out if I'm in China!!

No ! Pls dont get me wrong. I luv old skool and above all I luv DJin and entertainin ppl, like ur gd self. Read that post again and u will see that I put and spend a lot of time and effort into my Old Skool sets. So I can keep u all on ur toes and wonder wot I am doin. It keeps me inerested too coz there is only a certain amount of Old Skool tunez out there and I try to do and bring sumat different to Old Skool nites and to entertain u.

:( I jus get slagged by ova ppl 4 playin Old Skool and finkin thatz all I play. Therez a lot more to me than Old Skool and thatz wot Im tryin 2 get across. My side of all dis...

I am a DJ and I spend many hourz practicin wiv one aim to entertain and educate u all. As Ive said already...It is u lot who av put me where I am so I go outta my way 2 giv u sumat spec bak.
I am a DJ and my job is to entertain and thatz wot I try and do.
It wasnt the atmosphere or da club. Its my luv and passion 4 DJin and tryin 2 show u the wonderful feelin I get from DJin and music. Be it Old Skool or new tunez. I try and get this feelin and passion I feel 2u through the records I play. So u can understand I aint in it 4da money, its coz I luv and njoi DJin so much. Its my life Grad...

And I express myself through the records I play.

thought as much and as i put earlier it was a pleasure and a masterclass on saturday, I certainly appreciated the effort you put in. like you say it's all to easy just to turn up and throw the tunes down without any thought.

i think it was the 'mo fo old skool' comment that threw me.

it was clear to see you were loving it, that's why i had to ask..

sorted

I wud jump at the chance ( if given ) to DJ a set of my diverse musical tastes which av inspired me.
