That's quite hilarious that the DJs were pissed off - they mostly just played other people's productions! It's the producers who should've been really pissed off, if anyone, but the producers and DJs were all getting exposure, and we got wicked tapes! If it wasn't for Stuart and his dodgy tapes, I'd never have heard half the music I did when I was younger. I never went out clubbing, couldn't stand it, I just liked the music, and hearing it on those tapes, mostly Stuart Reid tapes, is what made me want to produce my own music.

Yeah, Stuard Reid, was responsible for the Eclipse and Stars X2 mixtapes, I still wonder if he has some stashed away in some attic somewhere, long forgotten.

Chris was he also responsible for the later bangkok tapes, I'm sure I read that somewhere , I could be wrong though.

Regards a stash of tapes, when I was on Face-ache yrs ago and on a oldskool group some fella would now and again post up some Eclipse sets that id never seen for sale or online before, he used to say these were never packed and sold, they seemed genuine due to the mcs etc...

Yes, you are correct, it was printed on the back of some of the later Stars X2 tapes. They set up a website where you could buy them on line, by then though mixtapes were becoming obsolete, so it never took off.

One of the things I always remember about the car park under the fly over was some fella with massive speakers in a small car.

He kept playing a track that sampled the Emerdale tv proggy theme tune (below) it proppa echoed under that bridge, but he just kep restarting
after about after about a min in.... Not sure how true it is but my mate reckons it was Robbie Dee

Another thing that sticks in my mind about mid 91ish was some fella in a long sheep skin coat getting nicked, he was queueing to get in round the side, a police van pulled up, about six of um jump out, chase him, they got him but it took all of um to get him down, then took him off, 15 mins later hes walking back down the hillo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

I do wonder how many more bootlegs and other bits he was responsible for

I'm sure I remember pulling one of the tape-face stickers off of a Bangkok tape; the stickers they used to stick on a new mix recorded on to an old tape that didn't sell or whatever, and the original tape was from The Edge - I'm pretty sure that happened, but my memory does muddle things up as the years go by! Reid was behind the Bangkok events, wasn't he?

All I know is I've not seen any flyers past 1992 for Bangkok @ the Tic Toc, not sure if Reid was part of it or not, there was something online about it but cant find it..

That's what makes me think it was him even more so, because the same thing was happening with both The Edge and Bangkok tapes, where they kept selling new mixes under that event name years after the actual events had stopped!

I wonder if Reid had no interest whatsoever in the music he was dealing with in general, and was just entirely in it as an opportunity to make money.

Yes deffo for the money, even in the vid Carl Williams said his tape was sold has Sasha 6.. Also he said he wanted no mcs on the sets, has we all know having mcs on sets give away a lot of info....

I remember my mate buying some Edge tapes and you could hear the mc had sort of been muted out

So half the mixes we heard were probably not even the DJ listed on the tape - some happy hardcore tapes had the last 15 mins of some Jungle set at the start. I loved the no MC feature, but there was a remnant of the MC left under the music on some of them!

Why wasn't there all this hoo-ha about the Love Of Life tapes? It seems most of them weren't from the LOL event, which seemed to be similarly in only the early 90's
