debs i was lookin into these a bit back n the best one i could find was a plextor capture unit, as it rips to divx rather than mpeg etc. (divx is like ya mp3 compared to ya wav in a way in the sense that its more compression etc) - it also rips to dvd mpeg etc too btw n if ya do do divx's it keeps the quality jus cuts the file size down loads

i found one at the time on ebay for about 60 quid. there more than that new i think but i can have a look around for one for ya if ya want?

i did quite a bit of reading up on em and that was the dogs bollox of what i sifted thru. plextor are a decent shabang

butty, I've just gone for one of those, so if it's a load of shit, I'm gonna punch you in the head :p

btw, it's £53.77 inc VAT and shipping (cheapest shipping option - 3 day lite)

I'd previously tried to convert videos via a DVD-R, the quality was ace, but then trying to encode from DVD-R (Video format) to divx was a pain in the arse, so being able to do it all on the fly, should in theory be good, the problems I've had in the past when I used a Belkin capture device were limited capture size, and it dropped loads of frames, so when capturing, it's best to take out your network cable (not be online basically) and also disable all firewall/antivirus software, and ANYTHING else in the task/system tray that doesn't need to be running, as the more system resources available, the better (even if you have a top spec PC)

I also was looking into buying one of these a while back, but got sidetracked.

I'd be interested to know what the results are like, Debs and Jammer:thumbsup:

Keep us updated! :)

butty, i fucking love you :D

This device is the danglies of the dog that ate a whole cat for breakfast :D

Amazing and so damn simple to use!

Word of warning to anyone, the driver doesn't work on the CD you get with the pack, but a simple google for the device name and the operating system you are using brought up the latest driver online, downloaded, installed, rebooted and had captured my first 1 minute of .avi compressed as divx with crystal clear mp3 audio (1 min of divx high quality came out at 34meg) all done in less than 5 minutes :king:

I'm so happy I could shit, all the tapes I have that I can convert to divx, burn and back them up, then chuck the tapes away, knowing the quality hasn't been lost - uknova are gonna love me :eyebrow:

Deffo a bargain, and takes away the hassle of converting to dvd-r, then re-encoding to divx (which never worked without sync issues for me) as this thing does it all in one go
