This one probs needs discussing cant remem if it has recently cos we've had the lot lol but just reading out of interest in the tune of the day thread, so post your comments here:cool:

My opinion on it, well Im all for it, if its good its good imo, end of

There are some terrible remixes of old classics out there but there are some really really good ones, Im not saying they are better than the originals but they are worth playing deffo. No harm in a fresh outlook on a tune if its done well.

I think the problem with them is the "now" sound that it comes out as (end product)

When Hardfloor remixed Yeke Yeke, I loved it, thought it was much better and stronger version than the original, but I can see why some people disliked it.

To me, I don't usually bother with newer remixes of older tunes, as I prefer the originals, but the odd one if done very well, then that's cool.

It's the new wave breakbeat stuff that samples big loops from old classics that I find the worst of them all, as it's often just a case of "let's rip 3 classics off and mix em up!" rehashed and repetitively boring to me.

Instead of just looping stuff, I wish people would be more creative, if you sample a loop, don't, sample each segment/sound and then trigger it in a new way, or filter it/change the actual sounds, a lot just take the sample, like-for-like.

:)

my simple response is that ifs done creatively with an honest retake as opposed to lets just blatantly rip of the original vibe or melody, Then good..

Remixes was a big thing for me 2-3 years ago. You don't seem to get as many now days. I have over 1000 new remixes which all sound superb imo.
As long as they ain't trance or scouse house remixes then I love em...:D
The Hoxton Whores have done some top notch remixes. Best one they did was Jungle Brothers - I'll House You which is a right stomper..
I dunno why some peeps slag off these style of tunes. They certainly turn heads and get people dancing when played in a club...;)

With Taff completely on this. I've got a few of the Hoxton Whores ones, and although some don't quite have the bit of the original, they are still great.

I think its cool as long as its not a great track thats gettin turned into cheesy "donk/hardhouse" or chav bassline...
other than that, if its done right then why the hell not....cant hold a good tune down can you?

if a tune has been remixed right then becomes a classic in it's own right. Take the chosen few, I've heard it at funky house nights, heard it at timeless and I played it a hardcore night and at at all the places, EVERYBODY was rockin
now thats just a good tune
