Depends on a couple of things really ..

No harm in it if the motivation to remix or cover a track is out of respect for the original.

Providing the job is done right then remixing or covering tracks can open up that track to a whole new market and age group that may have never known the track existed otherwise ..

Bassline and Bouncey House is the devil!!!! Music for folk who don't have a CLUE!!!!!!!

a fair bit of bouncey house is original..before it became scouse house.. bouncey house, is rachel auburn type hard house.. but scousers come on the scene and robbed that too.. we all have our opinions..:p

if the original was amazing, i dont see the point in remixing it!

if the original was really really unique why bother?!

some tunes need making better, a majority, need leaving alone..

if a tune has been remixed right then becomes a classic in it's own right. Take the chosen few, I've heard it at funky house nights, heard it at timeless and I played it a hardcore night and at at all the places, EVERYBODY was rockin
now thats just a good tune

Agreeed! :D  Tune ! :)

my simple response is that ifs done creatively with an honest retake as opposed to lets just blatantly rip of the original vibe or melody, Then good..

I think this is done with the upmost respect and tastefulness.
Produced by Danny Tenaglia.

If its done well, eg the Dimitri Remix of Stetsasonic, then fine, if its a pile of cheesy smeg, eg That Soul Central Strings of Life thing then its not so fine

All about opinions though innit:thumbsup:

I dunno mate, that strings track when it first promo'd lit up floors across the nation before it got a proper full release.

A friend of mine runs a xxxx house night...yes, the word 'funk' does appear in a lot of his flyer material and his website address. However, that's a different discussion altogether...

He played that Salsa House (2005?) remix and said the floor went mental. Yeah Dave, I said - its cos its a blatant ripoff. His take: who cares... I'm on the decks, it rocked the floor. I get rebooked.

And in all fairness, the young tyke is getting rebooked left right and centre - he played Ministry last weekend, has Pacha main room this Friday and debuts at the Cross in Feb.

So... if a classic house remix funkt up for 2006 gets the nippers on the floor pumping and hands in the air, is it a bad thing?

The new "Soul Central" tune "Need You Now" is quite nice, samples Nikkita Warren.

Also Hoxton Whores have just done a Remix of "N-Joi - Anthem" Not as good as some of their other remixes, and sounds like it's been re-vocalled, but it's still ok.
