After much thinking over and much head stress of late cos of it lol , i have come to a decision that i think and hope will turn out to be the best step for the future of Good Times ( and also myself in a small way )

This is that Goodtimes will be stopping its events at the Kube club in Wakefield as from September with immeiate effect , and this will be so for the rest of the year with any future events ( this should make a few folk happy lol ) , this desicion has been an extremly hard one for me to make ( as many on here know me personally , and that GT has been my passion for so many years and its what i enjoy more than anything else ( >> givin happy smily ppl a class old skool night out theyll remember !!! ) . . this decision has been made for a few reasons . . .

The main and BIGGEST reason behind this is . . . .

Since weve moved to the new venue in Wakefield from our old one in Huddersfield, the night has took a while to take off, as many nights do when movin to a new town , and it could be said now the night is goin in the right direction after 6 months there ( for some ) what with the added pre bar etc and more ppl in earlier on now , now this is not the case for me if im being honest to myself about it . . . . As i feel and have for a while that Good Times is strayin from the path i have wanted it to remain on since day one. . so something needs to be done to put this right now and not wait and see the night turn into something it isnt meant to be . . .

Goodtimes for me and i hope everyone else , has ALWAYS been about the MUSIC and the PEOPLE there , and just having a good & safe night in a QUALITY ATMOSPHERE with like minded persons avin it to the tunes we all love so much , and nothing else !!!! . . . :) ( just without the pissed up nob heads that just ruin and put a bad edge in many nights these days unfortunatly. . )

Another reason to ive come to this desicion is ive been running Goodtimes since September 1999 monthly now ( so have had GT related stuff to do every month / week without fail ) , plus all events in and around this time ( think weve done about near 100 nights now in our time . . lol its been a long and amazing 6 years up to date , when we first started Goodtimes id have never thought we would still be goin now !! lol it was only supposed to be a one off old skool party ffs !!! lol , and were now one of if not the , longest running old 100% skool night in the north ) so it would be nice and a change for myself at this time , while Goodtimes is away to just not to have the job and stress of keepin an estblished reg night goin as well as everything else i need to do outside of it !! ( Im sure many other promoters will agree running a night is no easy feat and can be highly stressfull at the best of times . . lol ) even if this break is only for short time like a few months ,it will be nice and very much needed to do my own thing for a while , and also plan out the Goodtimes return ;) cos im far from done yet ;)

Even tho the night in Wakefield has picked up considerably over the past couple of months and is showing signs of continuing to do so . . . ( the 2nd room for one has been a massive success overall , busier than upstairs earlier in the night at the moment, but this is bassline house ,not what the main Good Times style of music is ) , and i think if left to continue the night will become something different than what Good Times should be ( in my eyes ) and has been for so many years id like to think . . . and also what ppl expect from a Good Times night that have been in the past , or heard about us over the years . . As were ever we have promoted nights in the past from - Huddersfield / Wigan / Leeds / Blackburn ( + Old Cornmill ) they have all had that special Good Times factor so to speak that helps make Good Times what it is ( those who have followed us for years will know exactly what i mean by this ;) ;) . . . .and its something i have ALWAYS strived to keep in our nights , but a feel stayin in Wakefield will, in the long term change that , as its not just about gettin ppl in and making £££ ( personally ) as ppl may think . . . .

( I always said the day the night loses this , ( not only for me but for the ppl that come) , will be the day i stop doin them cos there'd be no point even if the ppl were still coming thro the door and makin us Money , unlike what many ppl may and do think , i have never and will never do Goodtimes purely for the money etc , its the buzz and personal satisfaction i get from it , that no amount of money can come close to :) am sure it the same for many other promoters , altho there is many money hungry ones out there . . . .

Now weve been goin for 6 years, there is also the added FACT that with any old skool night ,you can only do so many things in the old skool club scene with its music/djs, cos its the same music with the same djs all the time, just one big rotating scene so to speak , this is something i doubt not one person can dissagree with im sure . . . . . . . .

So i feel now with the above situation and my own situation , it is time for me to have a little break from it , and start planning something NEW from Good Times cos theres plenty more LIFE ;) left in us yet ;) . . . . lol

I plan on taking it right back to day one again so to speak , ie a smaller venue ( 1 room only ) = better atmosphere and closness if in the right venue imo , less djs , playing longer sets , and more importantly a bigger range of old skool music and not just the same stuff month in month out that many old skool clubs still do ( and not the large bill of BIG names that other nights choose to just to get ppl thro the door that play the same sets and tunes every time they play , cos its the younger new djs on the scene now imo that are gonna carry this music thro the next few years if it is to that is ) . .

this i feel is the next step for Goodtimes if it is to continue running , with the same quality of nights weve been renound for , since we first started in 1999 ( always swore id id get GT to 10 years old , so i aint stoppin till i get there . . lol )

so you CAN be assured this . . . Good Times WILL be back in 2006 . . . with a NEW venue and a fresh new old skool angle on its nights , just with the "old" Goodtimes vibe firmly reinstalled ;) . . . .

i thank you all for your continued support over the years and hope that when we return your support for us will continue . . . .

over and out

Ben . . .

Ben

I know how hard this decision has been for ya mate. Since getting to know you its so obvious what goodtimes and everything that came with it meant loads to you. Its gonna be well missed but its return will be so eagerly awaited mate.

I have a lot to thank goodtimes for has its the main event i have frequented since joining this board mainly due to how near its been for me even when it was at huddersfield and then on my doorstep in wakey. I have some fond memories of gt from the last three yrs or so that i have been going. Have also met some of the soundest peeps who i can call my mates.

I am sure you will stick by your word and come back better than ever just so sorry it didnt work out in wakey as it deffo had the potential it just had too much to live upto after babylon and the afterdark

Anyways mate ya know my thoughts on the matter. Good luck with what ever you decide to do from now mate and make sure ya stick around.

Andy

Ben. Dont even worry about it mate!

Timeless made the same decision when we had a break for a while! We could of rushed into a new venue which wouldnt suit. And we could of also got caught in the same tunes/djs trap. We do try and make it as varied as poss!
Im sure GT will only get bigger and better when u come back!!

You cant keep a good thing down mr fisher! ;) phones:  phones:

Ben, this must have been a really hard decision for you. Well done for sticking to your principles. Like you say, if you get the pisshead/nobhead crew in to any club, it can put a dampener on the night, (this is one of the reasons Earth relocated to Macclesfield, as every venue we got in Manchester got a fair share of twats/pissheads/wannabe MC's etc.), and I know sometimes you need to step away and think about what way the night is heading, and is it going the way you wanted it to when you started. If you need any help sorting stuff out in the future, just give me a shout, mate.

Hope all goes well ben chuck.
As every1 else has said, givin yourself time out and findin a place that suites you and reflects goodtimes as u want it to, will be better for you in the long run. A few month wont matter and if its better for gt's in the long run, then its well worth it.
Although i aint been to the new venue, i must admit, i used to love comin to gt's at Indigo (or Babylon as u mite know it :) ) The atmosphere was ace and the room was full of dancin feet. So Ben, im sure you'll be able to pull it off sumwhere else, its just matter of findin the right place at the right time i spose.
Anyway good luck mate and enjoy ur break. :mexican:

luv lou x

Good on ya Ben, after 6 years you deserve a break and i'm sure it was a difficult decision for you to make. I have only been to GT's once as getting there is a right pain in the bum, but i danced all night and had a top top time. Heres to more GT's in the future
