For me a disc jockey is someone who entertains, does not matter what media they use to play the music.
A dj today using one of these midi controllers can do things a vinyl dj can only dream about. In years to come using a midi controller like the Traktor s4 will be an art form in itself.
Mixing records on a deck using vinyl is not hard, even scratching if you put enough time and effort into it is not hard. Being creative and coming up with fresh ideas really is and these midi controllers will enable people to be totally creative.
At the end of the day its the dancefloor what will decide which media is used. Becasue these midi controllers offer up endless possibilities and will keep the danefloor fresh then all the best dj's in the future will excell on one of them
Kind of agree - however ... let us not forget that ... In the beginning (love saying that!!), house evolved from DJ's taking old disco records and cutting them up on reel to reel to extend the mix, creating a new vibe for the floor (Knuckles Levan Hardy) .... then replicating this using vinyl..... so its not just technology that is advancing the game it has already been done, and not by house jocks but disco djs too, soooo if you can be arsed to put some time in using the old vinyl and using imagination some wicked edits can be done live .... its about creativity not the medium!
