The main reason Heskey plays is because of the balance he gives us up front and the way he unsettles teams. Also, Rooney can play 'off' him although saying that so could Crouch. Granted Crouch could play the role to flick on to Rooney but Having 16 stone Heskey in the forward line unsettles centre backs far more than 12 stone crouch does. All ill say is id rather he played a 5 year younger Heskey or someone younger, fitter and more confident in the Heskey mould.

I've never seen Heskey unsettling anyone (apart from Ferdinand), he just falls over like Norman Wisdom

On a different note. . .. I'm getting well sick of everyone feeling the "need" to share in the world cup experience.

Perhaps it is the post Diana, media driven world of sheep we live in?

Any product no matter how unconnected to football is using football to sell it.
People who have virtually no interest in football for the next 3 years 11 months, suddenly have to dress their babies in football kits, have a World Cup BBQ, deck the car and house in flags in what seems a desperate need not to miss out or God forbid be outdone by friends, neighbours or colleagues.

Where will most of these people be if England get knocked out or until the next World Cup????

I have no problem with football fans going to town over the world cup, I just resent the all of these fakers who are just "getting involved" because the media and merchandisers have brainwashed them into thinking it's the next Big Brother or X-Factor.:|

They remind me of Man U supporters :drevil: :eyebrow:

As for last night... yes it was a bit lacklustre & yes the goal was a fucking howler but have faith.... why do we always make a mountain out of a molehill... ? It's always a crisis that requires Sky rolling news covering & over analysing every fuckin' minute aspect... I'm fully expecting Kay Burely to interview Green's missus & infer that the goal was entirely down to the fact that she didn't suck him off enough...

I said it b4, USA was going to be our hardest match, and I still think that. Normaly we play crap, we give the ball away all the time, we hooooof it up the field and hope some1 gets on the end of it.... And what would an England match be if we didn't fukup and let them score somehow? it's almost tradition now.

Sitting on the edge of our seats hardly able to watch as another 1 just misses our goal, eyes as wide as saucepan lids as we fire shot after shot at the other team! Football is entertainment, and I don't know about you lot... But that was the most entertaining thing I have seen in many years!!!

COME ON ENGLAND!!! WE WANT MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!!!!!!

Well thats a lighter note aint it lol...

To be honest mate im no footy nutt but recon we should support are team England when they do enter the world cup what happened to oldskool values. I mean long gone are the days where we would get a few bob together and have a street party for the kids and families and have a bit of fun..

You see other countries making an effort why can't we even if it is every 4 years ...

Why not buy into our own country I love england its where I live and I'm proud to be british why not put a flag out and scream at the telly for our country to win for once 3 lions comes to mind its a bit of fun...

I am glad I had a chance to enjoy a few steet parties when I was a kid and I know I was dressed up mad and a bit of face paint never done me any harm.

alot of people do it for there own reasons mine is for the kids and for fun and for ENGLAND.. I mean when do we really celebrate about being british apart from football you never see a union jack anywhere anymore its time we bring back the proper England where we all just come together to have a bloody good time .....

It was no way a dig at you personally mate and I was concious that you had put the flags out when I posted mate. I also did not know whether you liked football or not.

I have no problem with people having a bit of fun, I was just making the wider point that that the World Cup has become yet another commercialised and media driven circus event. The coverage on ITV News (prepare to be patronised news channel) just summed it up for me.

It's a modern phenomena as I don't recall the country going mad over until 20 years ago. (Italia 90 and only then when we were in the later stages).

Perhaps the point you make Dean about there been very little for the country to rally round together is very true. It is one of the few national occasions these days.

I still stand by my comments though about the commercialisation of the event and the media brainwashing non football fans who often make a bigger song and dance about the World Cup than day to day footy fans.

Hope I have not offended you. . . you know I love Ya!

i know some people on facebook, their born in England and of caribbean dissent, but they are supporting brazil !! WTF that all about ?? I could understand them supporting the reggae reggae sauce boys but it makes no sense at all to support Brazil ?? if your born here you should support england, its not like club football where you get glory hunters, this is national sides so you cant just pick a favourite team and go with them :naughty:

I agree with that 100% simzzz, thats just messed up? are people that retarded that that dont even understand the basics of the world cup?

Mr Radish mate, of course it's all about footy atm, of course every proggy, tv add etc is about footy, just like it is at crimbo time or even easter 4 that matter.

I'ts all about £££ and tbh if i had something to sell i think i would look pritty stupid advertizing it with a golf theme in the middle of the biggest sports event on the planet, be like doing a mothers day add in December lol

I can understand tho, if ya not much of a footy fan it's going to get annoying, but tbh, i'm not a footy fan, i dont follow prem footy, dont support a team and don't watch a single match, even cup finals... But world cup, euro? i don't miss 1min of it all from start to end and i fukin love it!!!

So for me personal, even if ya dont like footy, even if ya think ya know it all and history will just repeat itself endlessly... ya should still support ya home team rather than be a football humbug ;)

I am not against people enjoying the World Cup. . that would be silly.
I understand it's a chance to be patriotic.

I know what I mean and suspect more than a few others do also.

i think our dire showing in germany 2006 and then not qualifying for euro 2008 has seen a lot of people lose fait in our team. I was in Birmingham city centre last night and there werent half as many fans out as i had thought there would be. I think if we're lucky enough to progress then youll see loads more people out. There were a lot of 20 something lads out who just seemed intent on throwing beer about and shouting rather than cheer on the team.
