From a friend of a friend on FB - Robin Williams:

Kids nowadays: All they see is messages saying consume and are then denied the opportunities to do so. They feel frustration but dont see or understand the political nuances behind the causes of that frustration because discourse about the nature of capitalism and society has largely been replaced by the cult of individualism, celebrity culture and other assorted bullshit. Interestingly though i did read a few reports of areas where they were more interested in fighting the police than looting. The looting aspect is always overplayed in these situations as it provides a distraction and makes people stop questioning why people are taking to the streets.

FB is a no go area today. This is the topic that everyone is talking about and the same people that think the police usually go too far are now publicly condemning the police for not doing enough, or see this as just a bit of fun. As Scotty once put it (and I know it applies to mine too). 'Opinions are like arseholes, some are smellier than others'

It's gotta be the hardest job in the world to be a police officer in these situations with every mistake being publicly scrutinised. I'm sure it'll be all too easy to over react in a situation where you're surrounded by out of control thugs, so the solution for them seems to be to not react and merely observe.

Well i'm sure if it were my home on fire, or my goods being looted, i'd be wanting to see some skulls cracked. If you aren't part of the looting and arson mob, then go home while you still can, or risk becoming a victim of police brutality, because I can't see any other way to get the message across.

Kiss me brown eye
A cop mate of mine said the same thing yesterday Jimbo, when everyone was going on about shoot to kill or rubber bullets bollocks..
In his own words ..

Should we bring up Ian Tomlinson for when the majority criticised the Police for clearing a street during a riot....?

It's a lose/lose situation.

You push someone out the way, what happens when they fall over and die due to some medical reason.... you get blasted for weeks in the press, get charged at the insistance of some left wing quango, you get hung out to dry by your own spineless bosses.

It was interesting reading on the Off Duty forum last night too, off duty cops are switching off their phones, and want fuck all to do with being drafted as reinforcements for this mess... Something to do with being shafted by the Government, one suspects.

The most interesting message came up just before we went to bed, it was reported gangs of Turkish youths took to the streets to attack Black youths..

I can't believe it's actually young people...and they're completely running amok.

No self respect, no sense of ownership over their own communities they are destroying. It's like lads who steal cars...random acts of lawlessness that from our eyes seems pointless. To them however, it earns respect from their peers, and other people like them who have been shunned by society. This is the only way they know how. It's not just them, their parents have no sense of responsibility "fuck school, I never went"...they're not being taught how to have respect by their families...and I don't care what anyone says - but that's where it matters.

To be honest, I think there should be national service for those who don't want to get a job or an education after school. It might teach them some pride.
